The Asiyah Women’s Center is the first women’s emergency center in New York City and in New Jersey to address the gap of appropriate residential services for the Arab, Middle-Eastern, Muslim, South Asian (AMEMSA) and/or the Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) population. Our mission is to provide temporary housing for victims of domestic violence and women facing eviction, and/or homelessness. By connecting under resourced women in our community to job opportunities, a range of mental health and medical services, permanent housing facilities, health insurance and legal assistance, we hope to empower women to get back on their feet and overcome their deeply traumatic personal circumstances.

Position Description

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), serves as a key member of the Asiyah Center team and active participant in make strategic decisions affecting Asiyah Center. In partnership with the ED, the DoD is responsible for all fundraising, development, and communications. The DoD will work with the ED and Board of Directors to design and implement an overall fundraising and marketing strategy to increase revenue and visibility for the organization. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a small team environment while maintaining visibility and regular communication with a diverse group of stakeholders. Requires a high-energy, self- starter with strong organizational and time management skills.


  • Research grants, write grants, and submit grant applications on behalf of the Asiyah Women's Center.
  • Plan and execute annual fund campaign; identify new strategies and tools to further develop relationships with individual donors with goal of building a major giving program; and develop a planned giving program
  • Develop and manage publicity, marketing and informational materials for print and website, e-communications and social media; ensure that all materials have consistent messaging and branding; produce and distribute organizational newsletters in Spring, Summer and Fall; produce and distribute annual report in conjunction with annual appeal; and oversee website and ensure that it is up to date
  • Research and identify new foundations and corporate giving prospects; prepare and submit proposals; ensure timely fulfillment of grant reporting obligations.
  • Oversee the creation, planning and implementation of signature events and one or more cultivation events annually
  • Develop system to track all constituent information; record gifts; oversee gift acknowledgement process; generate fundraising reports to track progress; manage mailing lists for appeals, mailings, etc.; and coordinate with finance staff regarding gift administration, budgeting and reporting.


The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:

  • Over seven years of progressive experience in multifaceted development work, preferably in a small to medium sized organization.
  • Experience in submitting and applying for grants and connections with grant makers across New York City
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage and wide range of donors and build long-term relationships.
  • Experience creating, planning, and implementing fundraising and cultivation events.
  • Fluency in Salesforce or similar CRM as well as working knowledge of Wordpress, Canva, Classy, and Constant Contact.
  • Self-starter with the ability to be a proactive, flexible, and creative problem solver.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail with ability to maintain big-picture view
