JOB OVERVIEW
Equal Citizens is looking to hire a Campaign Manager (who, if successful, would become the Executive Director) to manage and direct the organization’s work on campaign finance reform.
Equal Citizens Description
Since 2017, the Equal Citizens Foundation has been a leading nonpartisan organization in the fight to reduce the influence of big money in politics. We have spearheaded efforts to spread public financing of elections from the local to the national level and fought to end SuperPACs, the most corrosive and polarizing money in our elections. In 2024, we helped launch a ballot measure in Maine to regulate and end SuperPACs. The measure passed overwhelmingly and will soon be subject to litigation, which we believe will head to the Supreme Court. We are now preparing to launch a campaign to support this litigation and to use it to spread awareness about campaign finance solutions.
In the wake of the 2025 election, in which wealthy donors played an unprecedented role, we plan to double our efforts to promote campaign finance reform. We are looking for a strongly motivated and experienced individual to manage our campaign finance campaign portfolio.
A successful applicant will have the opportunity for quick advancement in the organization, with the potential of promotion to Executive Director as the current Executive Director migrates to the Board.
Campaign Manager Description
The Campaign Manager will be responsible for leading all of Equal Citizens’ campaign finance work. This will involve making decisions about strategy, fundraising, branding, partnerships, and social media usage for the campaign to promote the lawsuit to end SuperPACs. The Campaign Manager will also be asked to network with other campaign finance professionals and identify potential legislative and educational campaigns that could reduce the role of money in our political system. These campaigns can be local, state, or federal and must demonstrate a high return on investment.
The ideal candidate may well have extensive leadership experience and understand the need for creative campaigning to raise public awareness. But we are not confining our search to people who have already run organizations or large campaigns. If you are talented and highly motivated, with relevant campaign experience, you may be perfect for this job. To qualify, the candidate must display a resume commensurate with the position and be driven by a belief in the necessity of campaign finance reform and an eagerness to learn about the various policy solutions that could make our democracy function more equitably.
The Campaign Manager will report directly to the Executive Director and be assisted by digital consultants with decades of experience.
The Campaign Manager position is remote and open to all U.S. citizens.

HOW TO APPLY
To apply for this position, please email adam [at] equalcitizens.us with a cover letter and resume as attachments, and include “Campaign Manager” in the subject line. Research Question 1 on the 2024 Maine ballot as part of your cover letter and describe why you believe the fight against big money in politics is important. The application deadline is rolling until a candidate is hired.
