Allen-Stevenson seeks a dynamic, collaborative Spanish teacher to join a positive, motivated, and connected team for the 2022-2023 school year. Our Spanish program is centered around Social Emotional Learning and Social Justice. We are an innovative faculty that seeks candidates to complement the strengths of our program and to add his, her, or their own expertise and background to provide additional breadth to the core of the curriculum. Candidates should understand differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and possess the ability and willingness to use multiple teaching methods to reach a broad range of students.
This full-time position starts on August 24, 2022 and is eligible for a complete benefits package.
Teachers are required to:
● Follow our curriculum guide
● Co-plan engaging and challenging units of study
● Differentiate for diverse learners as well as heritage language learners
● Use formative and summative assessments
● Keep anecdotal and assessment records and use them to write comprehensive student reports
● Co-create end-of-unit performance assessments which demonstrate what students know and can do independently
Additionally, teachers may be asked to serve as advisors to small groups of boys. Teachers are expected to participate fully in the life of the School, be a team player, a supportive colleague, and a hard worker.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Advanced degree in Spanish education
● Fluency in Spanish and college-level reading and writing skills in Spanish
● A passion for working with young people
● An understanding of early childhood development
● An openness to professional development and continuous learning
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Required qualifications:
● B.A./B.S. degree or equivalent degree or educational qualifications from an accredited college or university
● Native or near-native fluency in Spanish
● Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of instructional techniques
● At least two years of full-time teaching experience in K-8 public or independent schools beyond student teaching
● Experience in curriculum mapping, backwards planning, creating performance assessments
● Strong skills in second-language learning with focus on Social Emotional Learning, Social Justice, Project-based Learning, Total Physical Response, TPRS, Diverse Storytelling
● Level of comfort with new technologies in a 1:1 setting: using technology to support differentiation, managing a class portal, teaching basic technology literacy skills
Responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to:
● Instruction of multiple sections of Spanish ranging from Grade K-8
● Collaboration with other language teachers around curriculum and pedagogy
● Expectations such as interdisciplinary collaboration, elective courses, and other extracurricular activities
