Who We Are:

The Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition is the only non-profit organization in the Washington, D.C. area focused exclusively on providing legal assistance to adult and child immigrants detained by the government in the Capital Region. 

Our Work Environment:

CAIR Coalition’s Operations department is a highly collaborative work environment. We are responsible for providing HR (Human Resources), IT, and financial support to a growing organization with 80+ employees. The human resources mission is to attract, recruit, hire, develop, retain, and support highly qualified personnel who enable CAIR Coalition to achieve its mission and strategic goals.

Role Description:

The Talent and Equity Manager will play a critical role in establishing talent management programs to support managers across the organization. In this role, they will be managing the full talent life cycle of CAIR Coalition employees including, but not limited to, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and compensation.

General Duties and Responsibilities [1] 

  • Staff & Manager Experience, Development and Performance Management: Develops and improves trainings, satisfaction surveys, performance management systems, and other supports to ensure all CAIR Coalition team members are equipped and supported to thrive in the organization. Tracks outcomes of these trainings to ensure no meaningful gaps in experience across lines of race, gender, or other dimensions of difference.
  • Employee Relations & Manager Coaching: Assists leaders, employees, and managers in finding common ground, addressing interpersonal issues, and determining a path forward if misconduct occurs with an eye toward promoting equity, inclusion, and belonging. Conducts exit interviews as needed and shares trends as appropriate to improve manager and organizational performance.
  • Recruitment & Onboarding: Develops and provides oversight for hiring processes throughout the organization, including training managers and interview teams on best practices for equitable hiring, mitigating bias in the hiring process, and onboarding staff to ensure they succeed. Conducts 90-day and other periodic check ins with new hires to ensure trends are raised and issues are addressed as quickly as possible.
  • Special Projects That Advance our Equity Goals: Tackles new projects that have direct ties to CAIR Coalition’s equity goals, including revamping the internship program as a way of diversifying our pipeline, and taking action on a handful of equity projects as assigned by the HR & Operations Director. Other projects on the horizon in this area include researching, developing, and implementing a competitive compensation, promotion, and performance appraisal program with an eye toward equitable best-in-class practices.

Requirements

Qualifications Required: 

  • Minimum of three (3) years of human resources experience in a large (+50 employees) non-profit organization.
  • Must have HR experience in talent management initiatives, talent acquisition, and/or employee relations.
  • Working knowledge of best practices in equitable and inclusive management with desire to learn, practice, and improve as a talent & equity practitioner.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of employment related laws and regulations as they apply to recruitment and employment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently in a fast pace and hybrid work environment.

The Talent and Equity Manager looks for professional growth opportunities and puts into practice newly learned concepts and techniques. The Talent and Equity Manager interacts with internal and external stakeholders in a professional and effective manner

Programmatic Proficiency

The Talent and Equity Manager properly prioritizes tasks, projects with minimal oversight, and carries our tasks and projects effectively and efficiently. The Talent and Equity Manager shows growing independence for the management of projects.

Administrative

The Talent and Equity Manager ensures that all administrative aspects of their position are carried out without managerial intervention, including timekeeping, file upkeep, database upkeep, etc.

Timeline:

Start Date: August 29, 2022. Start date is negotiable. 

Salary:

$63,000-$77,500

Commensurate with experience per CAIR Coalition’s salary scale.

Location:

This job operates in a hybrid (remote + office) environment. CAIR Coalition has offices in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, MD. 

COVID-19 Vaccination:  

All employees are required to be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19 by their first date of hire. To be fully vaccinated means having completed the full dosages required for the type of vaccine obtained as designated by the CDC. If boosters are subsequently recommended by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) then employees will be required to receive the booster within thirty (30) days of their eligibility to access the boosters.

  • The option to set up a 403(b) account (the equivalent of a 401(k) account for non-profits) which the organization has the option, for all employees on an annual basis, to match at a certain percentage after one year of continuous employment.

Paid time off includes: 

  • Staff will accrue 12 days of personal time on January 1 and 11 days on July 1. Staff who are hired after July 1 will receive 11 days of personal time for the remainder of the calendar year.
