ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:
Project South is a grassroots, movement building organization located in the U.S. South. Project South has always recognized the U.S. South as an important lever for both oppression & liberation within the United States and in connection to the global south. Our organizational mission is to work with communities pushed forward by the struggle– to strengthen leadership and to provide popular political and economic education for personal and social transformation. We build relationships with organizations and networks across the
U.S. and global South to inform our local work in Atlanta and to engage in bottom‑up movement building for social and economic justice.
ROLE & PURPOSE:
The Director of Movement Organizing applies clear methodologies and tactical designs that demonstrate Project South’s movement building theory of change. The Director is responsible for developing organizing initiatives in collaboration with teams and partners, including overall organizing strategies and campaign direction. The Director leads, informs, supports, and coordinates organizing work across the strategic directions and develops collective processes to ensure maximum strategic impact, maximum collective action, and long-term power building. The Director ensures documentation and extensive follow-up efforts to track the lessons, communicate about the work, and deepen development of campaign plans, including goal setting, messaging, tactics, and timelines. Ensure alignment with overall organizational and expand movement engagement over time.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy Development: Collaborate with senior management to develop strategic plans for organizing initiatives aligned with the organization's mission and objectives. Conduct research and analysis to identify target audiences, key issues, and effective tactics.
Campaign Planning: Lead the strategies and coordinate efforts with other departments or external partners as necessary.
Team Leadership: Build and manage a team of organizers, including hiring, training, and providing ongoing guidance and support. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages innovation, creativity, and professional growth.
Community Engagement: Develop and maintain relationships with community leaders, grassroots organizations, and key stakeholders to foster partnerships and collaborations. Coordinate outreach efforts to engage and mobilize communities around relevant issues.
Volunteer/Member Recruitment and Management: Develop and implement strategies to recruit, train, and retain volunteers/members. Provide guidance and support to volunteers/members, empowering them to take on leadership roles and effectively contribute to organizing efforts.
Organizational Capacity Building: Assess the organization's capacity for effective organizing and develop plans to strengthen infrastructure, systems, and processes. Identify training needs and opportunities for staff and volunteers to enhance their organizing skills.
Data Management and Analysis: Oversee data collection and management systems to track organizing efforts, measure impact, and inform decision-making. Analyze data to identify trends, evaluate campaign effectiveness, and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
Budgeting and Resource Allocation: Develop and manage the organizing team’s budget, ensuring efficient use of resources. Identify funding opportunities and participate in fundraising efforts to support organizing initiatives.
Collaboration and Communication: Foster collaboration and effective communication across departments, ensuring alignment of organizing efforts with other organizational functions. Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, and public events.
Special Projects: Designing and implementing time-limited initiatives that specifically address opportunities or threats aligned with the organization's strategic directions. Responsible for identifying areas where temporary projects can contribute to the overall goals of the organization.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCES:
WORK LOCATION: Local Atlanta
SALARY RANGE: $70,000 - $75,000
