Shelter Shift Supervisor (Overnight)

WANA provides support, advocacy, and resources to people seeking safety from oppression facing the consequences of poverty and economic insecurity, including food insecurity, housing insecurity and immigration.

RDJ Refugee Shelter was founded in 2011 as a drop-in shelter for homeless community members and has since expanded into the only shelter in NYC for refugees/asylum seekers. We work to fill the dearth of housing support for asylum seekers by providing 8 guests at a time with 3-12 months of stable housing and weekly case management. Most of our clients are navigating the first stage in their immigration process and are ineligible for government benefits, as they are filing for asylum after arriving in the country or being released from detention on bond.

We are seeking an Overnight Shift Manager who is passionate about working with refugees and asylum seekers. WANA is one of the only shelters for asylum seekers in NYC. Our ideal candidate is also interested in learning more about immigration and housing.

Responsibilities include:

Coordinating the operation of the program during the assigned shift two nights a week which includes:
Opening the shelter space at 8PM, taking attendance of each shelter guest
Ensuring lights are out at 10:30PM
Ensuring beds are put away by 9AM
Help keep documentation organized
Support the process of addressing escalating or potential issues for or between clients
Provide emergency assistance to residents as needed and call the operation manager for further support.
Contact the Rector of the Church who is on site in cases of floods, fire and other building concerns, and any time 911 or law enforcement are called.
While performing the duties of the job, the employee will be in a residential shelter environment
