Part-time positions: 10 hours/week at $20/hour, August - November 2024. Five positions are open in specific locations across Massachusetts:
One Fair Wage seeks enthusiastic organizers to educate restaurant workers, supporters and their social networks about the opportunity to raise wages for tipped workers in November 2024.
One Fair Wage organizes to end sub-minimum, poverty wages for tipped workers. This fall, Massachusetts voters will vote on Question 5, which, if passed, will raise the minimum wage for tipped workers from $6.75 to the full state minimum wage–currently $15 an hour. Once the full minimum wage is reached, restaurants will have the option of sharing tips with back-of-house workers, lifting wages throughout the industry.
Regional organizers will use online tools, engage their social networks, phone bank, organize meetings and events in their cities and regions, and canvass to engage restaurant workers. The Regional Organizers will recruit volunteer leaders who will get out the vote among their own networks of coworkers and community members.
Previous volunteer or professional political and activist experience is helpful but not required. Current or past experience as a restaurant worker or tipped employee is strongly desired.
Regional organizers must be able to travel within their regions and attend at least one in-person training to be held in the Boston area. Training will be provided on community outreach, using online tools to build a network of supporters, media and public speaking, and nonpartisan voter outreach.
