New Country Day Camp is an open-tent community that celebrates and sustains joyful, outdoor summer experiences where all can thrive. We maintain a proud legacy as a Jewish camp comprised of a multicultural community, representing and celebrating the heartbeat of NYC. We build meaningful connections with ourselves, each other, and the natural world around us through innovative programming that is rooted in Jewish tradition and guided by universal values.

New Country Day Camp is an 8-week, outdoor summer camp for campers in kindergarten-8th grade. NCDC operates M-F, 8am-5pm, and provides transportation for staff and campers to and from our campgrounds on Staten Island via multiple locations throughout Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. NCDC is a neurodiverse camp community, and all staff members are responsible for supporting neurodivergent and neurotypical campers and staff to have successful summers.

Reporting to the Support Program Manager, Support Supervisors play a pivotal role in coordinating and supervising our disability-inclusive model that provides extra support to campers with additional social/emotional/behavioral/mental health needs (includes diagnoses such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADD/ADHD, mood or anxiety disorders, sensory processing issues, etc.). Support Supervisors ensure that all campers can experience the joy of camp in the most inclusive, least restrictive environment possible.

  • Direct client group:  Campers who require additional support & their families (K-8th Grade; Age assignment TBD)
  • Directly supervises:  3 – 6 Support & Inclusion Counselors
  • Will act as a task manager for group counselors when necessary
  • Will collaborate closely with other Support Supervisors, Division Supervisors, and Program Specialists
  • Directly supervised by Support Program Manager

Camper Care

  • Work directly with families, supervisor, and NCDC leadership to create Individualized Camper Plans (ICPs) for campers who require additional support
  • Beginning in April, conduct virtual and/or in-person intakes with new NCDC camp families and their camper(s)
  • Update ICPs for returning campers on specified caseload
  • Train supervisees (Support & Inclusion Counselors) how to use and implement ICPs for camper success
  • Observe and check-in with Support & Inclusion Counselors and individual campers as needed throughout the day
  • Be available for crisis management for all NCDC campers throughout the camp season
  • Utilizing disability-inclusion and trauma-informed care as a lens for all aspects of camper experience (e.g., assessing activities and providing necessary support to ensure a camper’s success)

  • Attend pre-camp meetings with families and/or staff as needed
  • Communicate with parents as needed through the camp season, including being available via phone and email until 6:30pm nightly

  • Communicate and effectively partner as needed with Division Supervisors, Aquatics Staff, and Program staff regarding camper needs and concerns
  • Ensure that all campers who benefit from additional support have plans set in place to support them on the bus ride to/from camp

Leadership and Staff Supervision

  • Be present at all days of orientation, camp, and staff meetings during the camp season
  • Proactively problem-solve and motivate colleagues as difficult moments present themselves throughout the camp season; encourage flexibility and understanding as means to achieve common goals
