In everything YA does, YA inspires youth to see beyond their self-interest and realize their potential to make a difference. YA programs are invested in helping students develop their leadership capacity by giving them the tools they need to address community problems.

Currently, Philadelphia Youth Action has three core service programs to fulfil our mission of producing socially responsible and transformational leaders who have both the skill and desire to serve their communities. These programs are: The Junior Youth Action Program (JYA), the Inspiring Leaders Program (ILP), and the Service Leader Program (SLP). These programs all focus on youth civic engagement in Philadelphia.

The position of Executive Director is a critical and visible position requiring strong business (financial, operations) and development experience. Reporting to the board of directors, the Executive Director provides inspiring leadership to support and achieve the mission and vision of
Youth Action within the boundaries, prudence and principles established by the Board. The Executive Director is responsible for the strategic leadership of the organization and oversight of all Youth Action programming; and is responsible for managing staff/volunteers, program administration and interfacing with Youth Action. S/he/they partners with the board of directors to ensure long-term planning; strong fund development success; and representation of Youth Action in the community – all leading to continuous and healthy growth.
As the organization’s chief spokesperson, s/he has primary responsibility for building partnerships with schools, government and community organizations, foundation officers, corporate and individual donors. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience coordinating new strategic partnerships and business development, fundraising, grant writing, and diversifying revenue generating opportunities, developing powerful branding strategy and experience effectively integrating the organization’s communications and fund development efforts. The Executive Director must be a visionary leader and be able to guide and facilitate resource development, access to capital, and other initiatives to enhance and sustain the organization’s financial goals and mission-driven opportunities. The ideal candidate is a dynamic leader who can build and execute thoughtful and ambitious strategies while ensuring operational excellence. S/he/they will have exceptional interpersonal and people management skills, with the ability to build and manage high-performing, cohesive teams.
The Executive Director will be a results-oriented motivator with high standards for excellence. S/he/they will be a clear, consistent, and empathetic communicator, someone who excels at relationship building, who is constantly innovating and has entrepreneurial instincts, who naturally absorbs new information, and who has a contagious drive for excellence and accountability. Youth Action is an evolving non-profit and we seek an executive director with an entrepreneurial spirit that has management experience in a non-profit, government or business setting, including program and project development, implementation, and evaluation; short- and long-term strategic planning; and budgetary oversight. The ideal candidate will have exceptional leadership presence and experience serving as a spokesperson for an organization, with demonstrated ability to increase and leverage organizational visibility, credibility and brand recognition through the media and other public relations sources.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant programmatic and leadership experience which should include experience successfully managing a nonprofit program, a strong understanding of strategy and experience with leading
organizations and has demonstrated growth and profitability. Experience working with or advising a start-up desired. Familiarity with Philadelphia, PA. educational and non-profit landscape preferred. The Executive Director must also have passion for our Mission, Vision, and work. The Executive Director must have experience creating and maintaining an organizational culture that attracts, motivates, and retains a diverse, talented staff to blend skill sets, meet objectives, and provide efficient program execution.
