Descrição

Dallas Afterschool advocates for public policies and public, private, and industry support to grow Out-Of-School-Time (OST) capacity to meet the needs of families and children in our community. The Director of Advocacy is a member of the Leadership Team and drives our efforts to increase support and knowledge of OST among key community stakeholders, including elected officials, municipal and school district personnel, philanthropy, corporations, and media. The Key Responsibilities include:

·       Develop a plan for building OST capacity by convening stakeholders to define the plan to increase access to high quality afterschool programming. 

·       Continue to strengthen our relationships with DISD and the City of Dallas and build partnerships with other districts, cities state and federal entities.

·       Develop and advance programs to train and mobilize families, parents, and DAS program partners to advocate for OST.

·       Push additional research into understanding the barriers to high quality programming and program distribution across Dallas County.

·       Investigate and develop the plan to understand and reduce challenges in the OST sector.  

·       Lead the Public Policy committee and work with them and the Dallas Afterschool Board to develop the advocacy plans to ensure we are progressing toward the long-term goals and strategic plan objectives.

·       Lead work at least biannually to publish a policy brief on our work. Develop other collateral as appropriate and ensure that we have relevant translation support.

·       Engage community partners, corporations, and other volunteers in our advocacy efforts, including events like Lights on Afterschool

·       Represent DAS in Dallas education focused community coalitions, advisory committees, and other enrichment opportunities related to OST.

·       Work with funders to influence funding to afterschool. 

·       Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation including documentation to track advocacy and lobbying efforts to maintain our 501(h) election

Knowledge/Skill Qualifications:

Professional Requirements:

·       Proven experience in managing complex community projects working with many different constituents and stakeholders

·       Proven ability to mobilize citizens and families to advocate and lobby at a grass roots level

·       Proven track record of lobbying, advocating, and building relationships with elected officials and government officials of all political parties

·       Strong understanding of educational landscape and nonprofit management

·       Ability to manage timelines and meet project deadlines, strong project management skills

·       Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

·       Exhibit mature, confident and trustworthy behavior

·       Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, and Project; knowledge of Salesforce.com is a plus

·       Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

·       Reliable transportation

·       Ability to speak and understand Spanish is a plus but not a requirement

Professional Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience

·       Passion for the importance of quality afterschool and summer programs

·       Commitment to working for racial equity in our community
