    About the job:

    Vermont Adult Learning (VAL) is hiring a part-time Math instructor to advise students, co-create their Personalized Learning Plans, as well as develop Math curriculum and teach students ages 16+ in our White River Junction Learning Center. VAL students build skills and pursue their learning and career goals through an innovative and personalized learning approach.

    This position will work Tues, Wed, Thurs onsite in our WRJ learning center, 9a to 5p (ish) with a caseload to advise ~10 students in concert with our lead Educational Advisor. They will also teach Math, mostly 1:1, with a willingness to teach online occasionally and adapt to changing student needs.

    The advisor/math instructor role plays a critical part in creating a welcoming, engaging environment for new and current students and is committed to providing high-quality services, delivering effective lessons and engaging, creative projects for our students.

    About you:

    The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with a passion for adult students in Vermont, demonstrated experience in creating and curating curriculum, the ability to ask for help when needed, and stellar organizational and communication skills for managing multiple priorities and program changes with patience and resilience.

    Enthusiasm and comfort to work with Adult Learners, especially youth aged 16-19 and LGBTQ+ is a requirement of this role. A personal connection, including personal experience as an adult learner oneself, is a benefit. Familiarity with the surrounding community and local resources is a plus. Knowledge of public school programming is always appreciated but is not required. Case management or project management skills will get our attention!

    Job Requirements:

    • Experience in curriculum and materials development required, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
    • Strong technology skills and ability to leverage these skills to enhance student learning.
    • Basic comfort level with videoconference platforms and accessing remote resources.
    • Must possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written English communication skills, and strong organizational skills
    • Be excited to work with and have demonstrated experience supporting diverse students, including students of color, English Language Learners, and LGBTQ+ students.
    • Successful national criminal background check and Vermont's Mandated Reporter Law training
