About New England Forestry Foundation

Through the application of our core expertise in conserving forestland and advancing Exemplary Forestry, New England Forestry Foundation (NEFF) helps the people of New England to sustain their way of life, protect forest wildlife habitat and ecosystem services, and mitigate and adapt to climate change. NEFF has protected one of every three acres of land conserved in New England this century, and currently protects more than 150 forestland properties—totaling 38,000 acres—through ownership and more than 1.2 million acres of forest through conservation easements.

While continuing to make important conservation progress across the region, NEFF has reached an exciting turning point in its programmatic work, and has created a number of new staff positions to help NEFF make a major impact on climate change. NEFF recently launched an Exemplary Forestry Center that brings together the organization’s initiatives and partnerships with ties to Exemplary Forestry—the gold standard of New England sustainable forest management and NEFF’s most powerful climate-mitigation tool—to tackle ambitious new goals and projects, all with the aim of solving the climate crisis. The Center will build on NEFF’s activities and expertise in forest science, outreach and coalition building, policy, communications, and innovative conservation finance programs; in the last few months, the Center has received major grants from individuals and foundations that are already helping NEFF expand its work, and more growth is expected as fundraising and strategic planning proceed.
