We are currently looking to fill two roles, one for our CBYX program and one for our YES Abroad program. The responsibilities for both roles are identical but aim to support separate programs at AFS-USA.
As the Seasonal Advisor and Coordinator for CBYX or YES Abroad, you will primarily assist Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) or Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad scholarship program staff with application and participant tracking and follow-up, compiling pre-departure intercultural training content, participant and parent customer service, participant visa advising, and the coordination and logistical arrangements for participant events and orientations. You may be assigned additional tasks within the Sponsored Programs Department. The ideal applicants will be passionate about study abroad, intercultural learning, and education --you will be an outstanding team player who is committed to excellence and always exemplifies professionalism.
This position will require communicating by phone and email with staff, participants and their parents, other program implementers, vendors, and volunteers/alumni. Strong communication and customer service skills are critical. First-hand experience with international education, preferably youth exchange, is preferred. We prefer a candidate in the New York City area, and welcome candidates located in any U.S. state and eligible to work in the U.S. The position will require in-person attendance at one or more in-person participant orientation events.
This position runs from May 2022 through September 2022. The standard work week is 35 hours. There will be times when hours will be altered due to seasonal fluctuations in workload and will include overtime, evening, and occasional weekend work.
While this is a remote position, the ability to work from our New York office as needed is preferred. Applicants outside of New York but within the U.S. will still be considered.
The ideal candidate must:
· Be articulate, clear, and precise when speaking and writing
· Have customer service, email, and phone experience
· Have studied abroad or have international work or travel experience, preferably as a youth exchange participant
· Have experience coordinating or managing academic or professional events
· Have organizational and computer skills, including Microsoft Office
· Be available to work remotely Monday – Friday, 9AM – 5PM Eastern; in-person during specific participant orientation events, which may include a few weekends.
· Listen and speak via telephone; type and view a computer display
