    Position Summary

    Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Manager will support growing, cultivating, and managing relationships at a pivotal moment in our organizational trajectory as WAM seeks to expand our offerings. The position will support fundraising strategy development and manage a robust pipeline of grants and funding sources. Please note this is a full-time, exempt hybrid position based out of WAM’s San Francisco office and not remote.

    Grant Development and Management:

    In collaboration with the development and program teams, develop and manage the production of high-impact and tailored grant proposals, applications, progress reports, draft budgets, and other collateral materials

    Provide strategic guidance and support to the development team, including coordinating, scripting, and preparing for meetings.

    Work with program teams to develop high-level messaging and framing for grant programs aimed at key audiences, supporting program design and strategic impact

    Develop and maintain a detailed calendar of grant deadlines and reporting requirements.

    Assist with cultivating and nurturing relationships with program officers, family foundations, and individuals to strengthen partnerships and identify new funding opportunities.

    Database Support & Administration:

    Support the creation and management of an annual donor communications timeline, including newsletters, appeals, impact reports, and personalized donor correspondence

    Collaborate with communications and program teams to ensure consistent and compelling messaging across all donor touchpoints

    Utilize and optimize Salesforce NPSP to track donor interactions and update records, including data management and infrastructure

    Analyze donor data to identify giving trends and inform ongoing fundraising strategy and tactics

    Send donor receipts and thank you letters

    Grant Strategy and Evaluation:

    Contribute proactively to short- and long-term strategic planning activities to establish and track fundraising goals from individual, corporate, and foundation sources.

    Lead prospecting in collaboration with senior leadership and program staff, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and objectives.

    Maintain and report on an annual pipeline of funding

    Stay abreast of emerging trends, best practices, and innovations in foundation and government grantmaking to inform the organization’s grant strategy development and implementation.

    Qualifications

    Undergraduate degree, preferably in English, communications, creative writing or a related area

    3-5 years minimum of grant writing/prospecting, donor cultivation, and event support experience are required

    Proven track record of achieving revenue targets of over $750,000 annually across corporate, institutional, and individual targets

    Excellent research, organizational and communications skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively.

    Strong systems and organizational skills

    Creativity, good judgment, and resourcefulness when it comes to problem-solving and taking initiative.

    Collaborative outlook and interpersonal skills to support team and organizational goals and match them to fundraising materials or prospects

    Experience specific to nonprofits, the arts, and/or STEM fields is preferred

    Proficiency with Salesforce, Foundation Center, and other tools

    Ability to develop and manage budgets and prepare donor-facing material

    Physical Requirements

    Able to stand, work, and commute from one location to another.

    Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
