City Year Kansas City seeks a Learning & Equity Director who specializes in instructional training and coaching for educators, professional development curation, and advancing a culture rooted in Diversity, Belonging, Equity, and Inclusion (DBIE). Reporting to the Managing Director of Impact, the LED will manage an Impact Coach who leads observation and coaching of City Year’s AmeriCorps members, create and facilitate trainings for staff and AmeriCorps members on a weekly to bi-weekly basis, and serve as City Year Kansas City’s Site Equity Point, building and implementing the site’s DBIE vision and strategy. This individual will also serve as a member of the site’s Senior Leadership Team, collaborating cross-departmentally and consulting on site-wide initiatives and long-term goals.


The ideal candidate has a proven coaching and training track record with the ability to build a community rich in cultural understanding through an antiracist lens. They are an equity-focused creative thinker that can leverage feedback and authentic connections to advance City Year’s mission.



RESPONSIBILITIES

Learning & Development Strategy

  • In partnership with the Impact Leadership Team (ILT), create a strategic plan to train and develop AmeriCorps members (ACMs) and staff, with a goal of supporting program delivery and fidelity of our service model.
  • Develop facilitation skills and content delivery methods for staff members supporting corps members in service.
  • Work with the Impact Directors and Impact Coach on curriculum development and system for requesting and hosting in-school, team-based training.
  • Collaborate with the Impact & Evaluation Director to collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to inform strategy, training content, and ongoing coaching approach.
  • Develop and monitor the quality and quantity of social-emotional, academic, and equity training events, including City Year culture frameworks, trauma informed practices, and restorative communities.
  • Identify appropriate feedback methods for evaluating learning and development spaces for the purpose of surfacing learning needs.
  • Facilitate, or secure external facilitators, to foster dialogue and collaborations that strengthening staff and corps learning in areas such as cultural responsive teaching, youth development, tutoring and mentoring practices, social justice, identify-work, bias awareness, etc.


AmeriCorps Member Learning & Development

  • In partnership with the Impact Coach, develop and coordinate ongoing trainings for AmeriCorps members, including start of year onboarding, learning summits and training events throughout the year.
  • Ensure site learning meets all nationally aligned training requirements provided by City Year Headquarters.
  • Lead Impact staff to create, adjust and/or facilitate relevant trainings.
  • Collect and synthesize feedback from AmeriCorps members and Impact staff to adjust ongoing learning.
  • Ensure AmeriCorps members and staff have access to learning resources by managing SharePoint content library.


Support Staff Service Model Learning

  • In partnership with the Impact Leadership Team, support the development and execution of on-going learning for Impact Staff.
  • Support the development and coordination of on-going trainings for Impact staff aligned with year-long AmeriCorps member learning calendar.
  • Ensure staff service model training is aligned with site priorities and adjust to meet ongoing needs of staff to support impact in schools.
  • As a member of the Impact Leadership Team (ILT), participate and contribute to weekly ILT meetings and weekly department meetings.


Site Equity Point & Equity Committee Leadership

  • Support and lead the Site Equity Committee to promote a culture of DBIE and strengthen our site’s antiracism efforts
  • As a Site Equity Point (SEP), attend monthly community spaces, with additional project specific (affinity groups, equity learning, etc.) support calls, as needed.
  • As SEP share best practices and resources, take back guidance to local site, and provide input into the priorities and strategic planning of the City Year, Inc. Office of Equity.
  • In collaboration with a 2nd Site Equity Point, lead out on managing City Year Kansas City's Equity Committee, made up of a diverse group of leaders – specifically in race/ethnicity and work experience – who act as a “Gut-Check” perspective for the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) on all DBIE-related activities and initiatives.
  • Co-lead monthly Equity Committee meetings, with additional meetings for events & initiatives, as well as quarterly meetings with the SLT.
  • Collaborate with HQ’s Human People team, Office of Equity, National Equity Advisory Council and other national teams to align site and organizational DBIE and antiracism efforts.


Equity Learning

  • Lead and facilitate individualized DBIE conversations with each City Year Kansas City Staff member – supporting each team member in crafting a plan for their own equity in leadership journey.
  • Create and implement DBIE and antiracism training for staff and AmeriCorps members, establishing a baseline learning curriculum with DBIE and antiracism resources.
  • Collaborate with the Equity Committee and internal staff to support affinity group implementation.
  • Keep current on diversity programs and developments by maintaining contact with others in the field (e.g., professional association and educational groups, and professional development efforts).


Staff Management and Site Leadership

  • As a member of both the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and ILT provide functional expertise and collaborate to make decisions that support execution of team, department, and site vision
  • Supervise and develop the Impact Coach with honest two-way communication, performance management, performance improvement, weekly one-on-one meetings, mid-year and end-of-year reviews.
  • Build strong relationships with teammates and partner with all City Year Kansas City departments through site events, projects, and cross-departmental committees as needed to ensure site-wide goals are met.

  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Belonging, Inclusion, and Equity (DBIE) work, including desire to continue equity-based and anti-racist learning and practices at City Year.
  • 4-5 years of experience in this field or a related field and at least 1 year in learning and development.
  • Experienced facilitator of difficult conversations.
  • Education background, coaching, training, and event planning experience a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and proven organizational and project management skills.
  • City Year/AmeriCorps experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of Kansas City Public Schools a plus.
  • Thrives in diverse, youthful, high energy, entrepreneurial, and fast-changing environments
