    COPE is a nonprofit grief and healing organization helping bereaved parents and families. Started by bereaved parents, COPE now offers professionally led support groups, monthly healing workshops, trainings for community stakeholders, and Camp COPE, a summer weekend experience for bereaved children and their parents and adult caregivers.     GENERAL:

    The Camp COPE Clinical Director plays a vital role in the success of the Camp COPE experience, a weekend summer camp for bereaved children, teens and their families, plus additional year-round family-focused programming.

    This is a part-time paid exempt position that requires the oversight of all clinical aspects of planning and implementation. This position also plays a key role in collaborating with the team responsible for the Camp’s corresponding Parent/Caregiver Retreat for the children’s adult family members to attend simultaneously - particularly in regard to marketing, interview process, and coordination throughout the weekend.

    The Camp Clinical Director will also play a pivotal role in the transition from a prior camp model and program of thirteen years to establishing a new Camp COPE brand and program. This aspect of the role will include program development, curriculum development, marketing, and outreach.

    The Camp COPE Clinical Director works directly and closely with the Camp COPE Camp Director, who both report to the COPE Clinical and Program Director.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Interview all families who have completed camp application form to ensure appropriateness of child participation in camp.
    2. Prepare a summary of each child to highlight loss, family dynamics, and child’s strengths and weaknesses.
    3. Reach out to organizations and community service providers to engage potential participants.
    4. Coordinate with the Parent/Caregiver Retreat team to ensure a fluid application and registration process for both children and their parents/caregivers.
    5. Attend “Meet and Greet” event/s prior to camp to discuss any pending concerns prior to camp; participate in post-camp reunion.
    6. Attend Camp COPE weekend bereavement camp (expected to be Wednesday through Monday of the last weekend of August annually) for prep, oversight, clinical support, and debrief. Note the current Camp COPE physical site location below under "Associated Location".
    7. Accountable for all camp-related bereavement issues, grief activities and supplies; train staff/volunteers on children’s bereavement, techniques for effective communication with children and HIPAA rules regarding confidentiality. Offer Grief Guides (mental health professionals who lead grief groups) background information on their campers, guidance in their activity facilitation and address potential concerns; provide clinical supervision for all Grief Guides and Bunk Buddies.
    8. Develop clinical crisis protocols for use by staff/volunteers; provide documentation of any crisis that might occur; responsible for clinical evaluation and intervention for incidents with children that appear dangerous, disruptive, or inappropriate to ensure safety and well-being of all campers.
    9. Complete program and evaluation reports provided by Camp COPE Director and/or COPE Clinical and Program Director following camp weekend.
    10. Attend online conferences and seminars offered by relevant entities as approved by the COPE Clinical and Program Director.
    11. Support fundraising activities for Camp COPE, especially with Camp Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Licensed mental health provider: e.g., LCSW, PsyD, PhD
    • Minimum of three years supervisory experience training staff and overseeing program activities
    • Knowledge of the process and developmental issues for grief and bereavement in children
    • Background and familiarity in Camp experience
    • Background in trauma-informed care
    • Program and curriculum development experience

    POSITION DETAILS:

    Average hourly time commitment per week:

    1-3 hours per week January through April and September through December including:

    • Interviewing, hiring, and training of camp Grief Guides, Bunk Buddies, and other volunteers in collaboration with Camp Director
    • Creation of camp weekend curriculum and schedule in collaboration with Camp Director
    • Outreach and promotion of camp in collaboration with COPE and Camp COPE teams
    • Debrief and evaluation reports after camp’s completion

    More intensive work and more hours per week:

    5-7 hours per week from May through August, in preparation for and the camp weekend itself including:

    • Interviewing families
    • Finalizing camp curriculum
    • Determining staff orientation goals
    • Set up and breakdown of camp facility

    Salary: $15,000 annually plus reasonable expenses covered for travel to Camp COPE and associated events
