ABOUT THE POSITION

The Vice President of Programs and Operations plays a key role in helping to determine strategies and oversee programs to fulfill Avenue's mission. This position directly oversees Avenue's Asset Building, Community Initiatives, and Lending programs, and also has primary responsibility for organization-wide operational planning, coordination, and reporting. This position works with individual department heads to monitor their work, not only ensuring each function stays on track to meet its goals, but also making sure each department understands its role in relation to the other departments and Avenue's mission.

The Vice President of Programs and Operations helps to nurture a strong organizational culture by promoting collaboration and teamwork.

The Vice President of Programs and Operations supports the financial management of Avenue as a member of the Finance Committee and approver of financial transactions, and is responsible for the effective management of Technology to ensure maximum productivity.

The role is located in Houston, Texas. No relocation assistance is provided.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Organizational Leadership (20%)

• Contribute to the development and implementation of the strategies to achieve the mission, vision and values of Avenue
• Represent Avenue in meetings and in communications with all stakeholders when the CEO is unavailable
• Serve on the Finance Board Committee

Program Leadership: Asset Building, Community Initiatives, & Lending (30%)

• Oversees the development and implementation of operational excellence plans
• Oversee programmatic fund development efforts and responsibilities

Planning and Coordination (30%)

• Coordinate the work of the Senior Leadership Team and key program directors/managers to create an annual operating plan
• Coordinate NeighborWorks reporting
• Responsible for Business Continuity and Emergency Action Plans

Supervisory Responsibilities (15%)

• Meet with direct reports regularly, develop, coach and mentor them as needed
• Perform hiring duties as needed

Technology Management (5%)

• Provide oversight for Avenue's technical operating systems (Programmatic and shared software, IT support, telephones and office equipment), with decisions on any major purchases being made in collaboration with the CEO and CFO.
• Anticipate and manage risks associated with day-to-day technology operations and recommends technology updates and/or security measures when needed.

Experience Required

• A minimum of five to eight years of experience in program and/or organizational management in director-level positions and higher, preferably in the non-profit sector; relevant experience in an affordable housing/community development organization a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

• Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.
• Ability to balance, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
• High level of knowledge and understanding in program management and evaluation, operations, technology, and grants management.
• Demonstrated resourcefulness in operational excellence strategies, setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems.
• Prior financial responsibility and experience preparing and managing program budgets successfully.
• Proven effectiveness leading professionals.
• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to Avenue's mission and values.
• Flexible and a self-starter; able to multitask while also being highly detail-oriented.
