YOUNG FAMILIES RESIDENT ADVISOR - Full-time

The role of the Young Families Resident Advisor is to ensure a welcoming and safe

environment for all first time expecting mothers in the Maternal Pathway

Program at Covenant House New Orleans (CHNO). Resident Advisors advocate for

and provide direct care services, mentoring, and support to youth in accordance

with the Covenant House Mission, Principles, and Core Values.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in social services and/or public health preferred, OR a minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with at-risk youth: expecting young mothers and/or homelessness. Minimum of two (2) years in a residential/transitional living setting preferred.
• Prior experience working with youth who have experienced homelessness, trauma, or other emotional and behavioral challenges using a trauma informed approach.
• Knowledge of community resources, and the ability to make referrals.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment in crisis situations and to supervise youth, maintain order, and exercise authority in an appropriate manner.
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable to the needs of youth and the agency.
• Valid driver’s license.
