The Assistant Program Manager is a full-time direct service position in an After School Enrichment Program and Summer Enrichment Program in a community-based organization in Baltimore City. The Hampden Family Center offers a variety of programs and services to support area residents. Programs for children and youth are designed to support students academically and provide opportunities for exposure to arts, culture and recreation while providing a safe and secure environment.

Position Summary: Responsibilities include supporting the planning and implementation of the After-School Enrichment Program, Summer Enrichment Programs, Study Buddy Program, and includes direct service in each program. This position reports to the Program Manager.

PRIMIARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a comprehensive set of daily program activities that will engage program participants and provide academic support for up to 30 students in grades 1 – 6.
  • Design activities consistent with curriculum arc, including art, literacy, recreation, STEM and skill building and community.
  • Create a positive environment using role-modeling, respect, and effective behavioral management techniques, including de-escalation and mediation.
  • Supervise students’ daily walk from nearby school to the Center, and parent/guardian pick-up.
  • Responsible for set up, maintenance and cleanup of activities room.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain inventory and submit order requests for activity supplies and daily snacks.
  • Assist Program Manager with partner development and evaluations.
  • Assist Program Manager with volunteer orientation and management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:      Bachelor’s Degree required

Experience:      A minimum 2-4 years of experience with children/youth in an enrichment, after-school or academic setting.

Skills: Knowledge of child development and learning theory.

Assessment skills for children/youth ages 6-13 in a learning and social setting.

Working knowledge of trauma informed care in an educational setting is preferred, but not required.

Abilities: Understand and be committed to the overall philosophy of the Center and its dedication to serve people of all backgrounds and needs.

Ability to relate to people of diverse educational, cultural, and economic backgrounds.

Foundational knowledge of child/adolescent development, social-emotional learning.

Experience working and supporting youth ages 6-13 in educational and educational adjacent settings.

The ability to promote and nurture a trauma-informed and culturally responsive space where young people are safe and supported.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while remaining organized and focused.

Flexibility and a collaborative spirit that supports co-workers and promotes the overall

success of the Center’s programs and services.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Background check is required.
  • Work is performed in a classroom setting as well as a community environment.
  • Occasional independent travel to off-site locations.
  • Position requires the ability to lift and transport light equipment.
  • Weekend and evening work may be required.
  • Duties may be amended at leadership’s discretion.
