The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF)—the world’s top-ranked think tank for science and technology policy—seeks a project director to lead and manage ITIF’s work on antitrust policy. This is a full-time, permanent position.
Advancing the legacy of economist Joseph Schumpeter, who recognized how “perennial gales of creative destruction” revolutionize capitalism from within, ITIF launched its Schumpeter Project on Competition Policy to fill a void in the policy debate over antitrust in the digital economy: Whereas the prevailing “Chicago School” clings to a static view of consumer welfare as the primary analytical framework for antitrust enforcement, and self-proclaimed “Neo-Brandeisian” progressives advocate for an aggressively retrograde approach to regulating competition, the Schumpeterian perspective represents a new intellectual framework for practical antitrust reforms that enable a dynamic interplay between competition and innovation—recognizing, for example, that size and market power enable investments in R&D, which in turn drive innovation and global competitiveness.
Reporting directly to ITIF’s president, the successful project director will be a skilled communicator, both as a writer and as a public speaker; an effective manager of people and projects; and a creative thought leader, with a deep understanding of antitrust policy, economics, and the policymaking arenas in Washington and Brussels. The director will manage a team of analysts, charting and leading the development of a body of policy-relevant research and event programming. The director also will conduct their own original research; author reports, blog posts, and op-eds; and engage with policymakers, the press, and other policy influencers in meetings, interviews, and public speaking engagements. The position will ideally be based in Washington, DC, but remote work is negotiable.
The successful candidate will have the chance to shape and deliver an exciting program of work on antitrust and innovation and be part of a dynamic and committed team.
