The Shakespeare Theatre Company, a multi-venue Lort B+ theatre in Washington DC, seeks an Audience Services Manager (ASM) to join our professional Audience Services team. This is an exciting time for STC as we venture back into the world of live performances after the pandemic, and anyone joining our staff should expect a lot of rewarding work ahead. The ASM works with all areas of Audience Services, including the Box Office, Front of House, and Retail and Concessions teams. This position will work with the other Audience Services managers by overseeing and scheduling volunteer ushers, part-time staff, covering shifts as manager, and working with Operations and IT to ensure the theatres are operating at optimum levels. The ASM will think critically about the customer service provided to STC’s patrons, and, working with the Director of Audience Services, conceive of and implement ways to encourage loyalty, increase sales, and respond to patrons needs in directions that are beneficial to STC. The ASM may be asked to devise and implement an outbound caller group to respond to the needs of the Marketing department in relation to subscriptions, or to help alert patrons affected by schedule changes. This is a great position for big thinkers who like to think in terms of how benefiting the audience benefits everyone in the organization. The ASM will work many evenings and weekends, though not exclusively. This is a full-time position with excellent benefits and an annual salary of $50,000.


This position requires an ability to multitask and respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations. Experience working in a theatre is preferred, especially Box Office or Front of House. Candidates who are adept at and enjoy learning new technology will be trained to use Tessitura (ticketing system), Mobile Bytes (POS system), First Aid/CPR/AED, and all STC policies and procedures. The most important talents a candidate can bring to this position are excellent communication skills, an enjoyment of problem solving, and the desire to provide the best customer service. This position requires regular lifting of up to 25 lbs and the ability to move quickly on stairs and flat areas. Applicants must be able obtain an alcohol beverage control license and a food handlers license.
