Overview:

The Peter and Carmen Lucia Buck Foundation (PCLB) was established in 1999, by Dr. Peter Buck and his wife Carmen Lucia, as a private family foundation to manage their philanthropy in a thoughtful and strategic manner. We awarded approximately $33 million in grants last year, with roughly 75% of that grant-making in education across Connecticut and New York.

PCLB’s work is anchored by its mission statement, “giving motivated people the tools they need to help themselves.” These tools are about more than grants and include guidance, connections, convening, information, and other forms of assistance that the Foundation and its grantees can provide. PCLB looks to support the highest‐quality organizations that show initiative, leadership, and innovation in solving issues that are meaningful to the family.

The PCLB Foundation is growing and is therefore seeking to add a Research & Program Assistant to its team. The Research & Program Assistant will provide critical support to PCLB’s Program team across several portfolio areas – especially in the Education grant-making portfolio. This position has a significant research and data analysis component that aids in the monitoring and development of grant-making strategies. This role will also support the Program team and the Executive Director with communications to external organizations and with the execution of special projects, necessary for successful program administration.

Position Responsibilities:

Research & Data

·        Conduct research through literature reviews, analysis of public data, administration of surveys, and interviewing relevant organizations to help the Program team build the knowledge necessary to develop and execute core grant-making strategies.

·        Manage grantee performance measurements including the preparation of excel templates, maintenance of data in our education database, and making suggestions for collection methods, data points collected, and visual presentation.

·        Support the Grants and Program teams with the collection and review of grantee program measurements for completeness and accuracy.

·        Generate analytical reports from internally and/or externally obtained data, including generation of graphs or other visual aids, that enable program staff to make data-driven decisions, grounded in evidence.

Administrative

·        Assist in the preparation, dissemination, and tracking of communications and materials related to requests for proposals and to education cohort grants.

·        Schedule and coordinate the logistics of grantee convenings - creating the RSVP, tracking registration, implementing the day-of setup, and technical troubleshooting.

·        Support the Executive Director and Program & Administrative Officer on various special projects, such as staff trainings, staff events, and strategic planning.

·        Collaborate on Board meeting preparation and execution and other grants administration processes as needed.

Other

·        The Research & Program Assistant may be called upon to perform other responsibilities as necessitated by the Foundation’s work.

Qualifications:

·        Embrace the Foundation’s core values of Self-Reliance & Fairness, Honesty, Humility, Trust, Excellence, Patience & Adaptability.

·        Commitment to and belief in the Foundation’s core issue areas and strategies.

·        Demonstrated knowledge in Microsoft Excel required.

·        Knowledge of relational database management systems (e.g., MySQL) and data visualization software (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau) a plus.

·        Experience with data and data analysis preferred. Familiarity with PK-12 education data and assessment data a plus.

·        Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

·        Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

·        Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage concurrent multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and prioritize accordingly, including having excellent follow-through.

·        Bachelor’s degree required. 2-3 years of work experience, preferably in an education/education non-profit setting or research setting.
