About the position

LSM's Special Projects team is responsible for compelling global initiatives that unite the Church around shared values. 

As the ecological economics coordinator for the team, you will work at the forefront of faith-based efforts to make our economic systems more just. Your guidance will deliver new momentum to the global movement for ecologically sensible economic systems. 

Your work will primarily focus on the Laudato Si’ Action Platform, which helps institutions, communities, and families to work towards full sustainability in the spirit of integral ecology. The Laudato Si’ Action Platform is centered on seven goals that give aim to our shared efforts to build a better future. Ecological Economics is explicitly a Laudato Si’ Goal. 

As the ecological economics coordinator, you will be an essential part of a small team that is making a big difference for our common home. We’re looking for someone who is both collegial and able to work independently. We hope that person is you!

Key responsibilities

  • In collaboration with partners, create concise, practical resources on ethical banking and insurance and on divestment and reinvestment 
  • Tailor these resources to the diverse needs of participants in the Laudato Si’ Action Platform, which spans sectors and continents
  • In collaboration with communications and organizing staff, ensure that Laudato Si’ Action Platform participants are aware of and using ecological economics resources
  • In collaboration with partners and staff, hold trainings on ecological economics principles and on practical ways to pursue ethical banking and insurance and on divestment and reinvestment, adjusting trainings to fit the needs of diverse participants 
  • Ensure that Laudato Si’ Action Platform participants join programs that serve their needs for the long term 


Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will have all of these qualities:

  • Three to five years’ experience in ecological economics, which may include both academic work at the level of a master’s degree or higher and employment in the field of ecological economics 
  • Demonstrated experience in translating abstract principles into practical actions for the layperson
  • Knowledge of the diverse needs of multiple entities vis a vis ecological economics (e.g., nonprofit and for-profit organizations, big and small organizations, families and institutions, organizations in the global South and organizations in the global North)


Our ideal candidate will have some of these qualities:

  • Experience working within the Catholic Church
  • Ability to speak Italian, Spanish, French, or Portuguese
  • Experience working at scale
