FINANCE ASSOCIATE POSITION


LSE is a statewide non-profit organization that has been providing free legal services to Maine seniors for forty seven years. LSE is committed to ensuring that all Maine seniors – of any class, race, sex, background, orientation, or identity -- are secure in meeting their basic needs, including housing, health care, nutrition, community, safety, and freedom from exploitation and oppression. As part of that commitment, LSE works to create and maintain a workforce and culture that reflects the diversity of our state.  


This fulltime position can be structured as remote, hybrid, or working from an office located in Augusta. Part-time employment may also be an option. This is an outstanding opportunity for a finance professional to expand their skills.  The duties of the Finance Associate position include:

  • Support the Finance Manager with all finance and budget-related matters.
  • Preparation of bi-weekly payroll. Generate reports, prepare journal entries and post as needed.
  • Full cycle of accounts receivable functions including monthly billing and timely payment reconciliations. Generate reports as needed.
  • Full cycle of accounts payable functions from invoice entry to payment with accuracy in program expense allocation and supporting documents as well as preparation of annual 1099 filings.
  • Assist Finance Manager with month end close activities including journal entries, account and bank reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Provide support to Finance Manager for benefit administration functions with open enrollments, new hires and departing employees, and annual filings.
  • Assist Finance Manager with annual financial audit and tax document preparation and reconciliations as needed.
  • Assist Finance Manager with insurance and vendor renewals.
  • Serve as backup to other designated finance staff.
  • Assist in filing and maintaining personnel and finance records for easy access.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or combination of education and experience normally represented by an Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Two or more years’ experience working in a finance department, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Proficient with QuickBooks and Excel.
  • Familiarity with payroll processing.
