Are you ready to directly impact the lives of first-generation college students and champion economic mobility for all?

About Us

Did you know that only 21% of low income, first-generation college students in the U.S. graduate within six years? Those who do graduate have a median household income 27% lower than their peers. While there are a multitude of college access programs for high school seniors and job assistance programs for low-wage earners, there are few programs that ensure first-generation students stay in school and build the skills necessary to prepare for long-term careers. This is where America Needs You (ANY) comes in. ANY fights for economic mobility for ambitious, first-generation college students by providing transformative mentorship and intensive career development. Founded in 2009 and headquartered in New York City, ANY expanded to New Jersey in 2012, Illinois in 2015, and California in 2016, growing from serving 50 students to nearly 600 students annually. In 2021, ANY launched FirstGenU, a new virtual program designed to help 10,000 first-generation college students navigate their careers. Visit https://americaneedsyou.org/firstgenu/ to learn more.

The Individual Giving and Special Events Manager is an integral member of ANY’s External Affairs team responsible for managing ANY’s individual giving campaigns and the production and execution of engaging and compelling special events. In addition to donor cultivation/major donor operational support and special events logistics and support, the manager will work with the Chief External Affairs Officer (CEAO) to ensure that we achieve our annual fundraising goals. The position is hybrid and is based in New York City, or Jersey City, NJ. As ANY workshops are held on Saturdays and fundraising events may occur in the evenings, this position will require flexibility and willingness to work nontraditional work hours and occasional out-of-state travel.

  • Manage ANY’s middle giving portfolio of donors under $5,000
  • Collaborate with the CEAO to establish and execute a moves management process that incorporates appropriate and personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship steps
  • Research best practices around major giving portfolios, stay up-to-date on industry trends and apply findings to plans and strategies
  • Design strategy and implement appeals to retain first-time donors to make a second gift, renew lapsed donors and invite volunteers into giving
  • Work closely with CEAO and External Affairs Manager in the creation and fulfillment of an annual Communications Plan that supports all fundraising and donor stewardship activities
  • Work closely with the Development Coordinator to establish best practices for data and processes

Special Events

  • Host a series of quarterly Enrichment Events (i.e. resume Review, Mock Interviews) that recruit and engage prospective donors and volunteers

  • Experience planning and executing virtual and in-person events with 75+ attendees preferred
  • Entrepreneurial with fast project execution
  • Comfort with ambiguity and flexibility
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Bachelor’s degree required
