Narika (www.narika.org) is a non profit organization in the East Bay area that provides culturally responsive support and services to domestic violence survivors of South Asian descent. Embracing the notion of survivor empowerment, the organization's dedicated staff and volunteers work with a variety of community partners and offer a continuum of services and resources ranging from DV advocacy, legal referrals, crisis counseling, safety planning, case management, economic empowerment to financial literacy.

Ideal Candidate:  This position is an exciting opportunity to initiate and build Narika’s Prevention Program. The Preventionist will educate parents, caregivers, survivors and the community at large on best practices on healthy relationships and parenting tools in order to disrupt developmental pathways toward partner violence. The Preventionist will serve as a bridge between prevention education provided to youth and children and the information/education provided to adults and caregivers. Our  ideal candidate is  passionate about preventing cycles of intimate partner violence and enjoys engaging with the community to educate and inform folks about healthy relationships, mindful parenting and dismantling systems of violence. The ideal candidate approaches their work with humility, compassion, humor, and creativity. 

Essential Functions:

  • Work closely with subject matter experts to  develop and design culturally relevant prevention materials to educate the community on healthy relationships and parenting skills 
  • Get trained on facilitating workshops and interactive sessions to teach the newly developed culturally relevant healthy relationships and parenting modules, to community,  parents and caregivers
  • Create and participate in outreach events in the community to distribute relevant prevention materials and information about Narika’s programs
  • Create and facilitate community education parenting workshops (online, or in person, or hybrid)
  • Research prevention education models and best practices and incorporate them into the new prevention modules
  • Recruit and train volunteers to facilitate outreach and educational events in the community
  • Support the creation of a culturally relevant Prevention Podcast in year 2 of the grant
  • Work closely with Intervention Service Advocates to cross train on Narika services
  • Design and implement feedback surveys to enhance program’s impact and meet grant requirements
  • Maintain documentation and records for grant and reporting requirements
  • Attend collaborative and partnership meetings as required
  • Attend grant compliance meetings
  • Connect with meaningful resources in the community and connect them with Narika
  • Attend weekly staff and supervisor meetings
  • Develop meaningful relationships with partners important for Prevention work
  • Other duties as assigned by Executive Director

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • 2-3 years of experience or an undergraduate degree in related field such as psychology, social work, social justice etc
  • A deep understanding of South Asian culture and community
  • A deep interest and passion in engaging with parents, caregivers and the community on the topic of healthy parenting and family relationships
  • Ability to fluently speak and understand at least one South Asian language
  • 40 Hr DV Advocate Training completed or willing to complete within 3 months of hire.
  • Experience in group facilitation, public speaking and presentation skills
  • Experience with creating outreach and educational materials
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Working knowledge of or willingness to learn Canva or other similar application to create outreach materials
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail as well as ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness and ability to work with people of diverse ethnicity, socio-economic circumstances, religion, culture and sexual orientation
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines
  • Must possess valid California driver's license and evidence of insurability
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Must clear background check
  • Willingness to support Narika’s work and values
  • Ability to lift supplies up to 25 lbs. to waist height
  • Must be able to drive to events and be on their feet for at least one hour at a time
  • Ability to work some weekends and after hours

Desirable:

  • Experience managing social media
  • Volunteer management skills
  • Ability to integrate arts and cultural expressions into prevention work such as leveraging theater, music or visual arts

Job Type: Full-Time

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shifts
  • Weekend and after hours to expected
  • Hybrid position: remote and select days in office
  • Location: Fremont office
