Position Profile:
The Inventory Assistants are responsible for moving and rotating stock in the food pantry, as well as receiving deliveries and making sure foods are stored safely. The inventory assistants are responsible for making sure all the equipment is in good working order and that the warehouses and storage facilities are kept clean and organized. Inventory Assistants will have the opportunity to work between centers and will be responsible for understanding the site specific details in each center. Inventory assistants may be used to move inventory between centers or between storage facilities and will need to drive a box truck in order to do so.
Essential Responsibilities:
● Be willing and able to drive trucks and vans to move inventory between centers and storage units;
● Keep vehicles clean and drive responsibly;
● Report to the supervisor when a situation arises with the vehicles that requires maintenance, repair or reporting;
● Knowledgeable of operation of Forklift and Pallet Jack; inform appropriate Inventory/Fleet Manager of any necessary repairs;
● Keep sites clean, neat and well stocked (site must be able to pass USDA Inspection at any time);
● Keep storage units clean, neat and well stocked, as well as know what inventory is where;
● Coordinate with the Inventory/Fleet Manager and Food Rescue Coordinator regarding donations, adding in items based on date received and expiration dates;
● Evaluate food received to ensure safety and acceptability according to health and nutrition guidelines determined by Bread for the City;
● Assist in setting up for Farmers Markets and assist in distribution at these and other events;
● Represent Bread for the City in a respectful courteous, professional manner;
● Attend mandatory Program department meetings, and training;
● Obtain and share basic knowledge of Bread for the City’s programs with clients;
● Work alongside the food department when not actively moving inventory, which may include but is not limited to registering clients in Salesforce, filling grocery orders for clients, and following up on client concerns;
● Accept additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements:
● Valid driver’s license;
● Food Safety certification (will be sent for training and recertification if not current);
● Driving experience, must know metro area;
● Demonstrate commitment to working with and for low-income people;
● Flexible demeanor;
● Ability to work with a diverse staff;
● Ability to work independently and to report regularly to Food Inventory and Fleet Manager;
● Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.;
● Familiarity with Google Organization & Productivity Tools (Gmail, Salesforce, Google Docs, Calendar) and/or ability to learn new technology systems;
● Willingness to learn and carry out Bread for the City’s commitments to social justice and racial equity;
● Ability to work with volunteers and staff in a professional and collaborative manner;
● Work well under pressure and adapt easily to changes in their work environment;
● Must be a team player, trustworthy and honest;
● Comply with Bread for the City’s vaccination and TB testing requirements.
