WCN’s dedicated and diverse team values the people and relationships behind conservation as much as the science and strategy to save wildlife. We are looking for an experienced, collaborative professional with an accounting background who can apply their skills, creativity, and passion to wildlife conservation.

Position: Staff Accountant 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Disbursements

• Review contracts, invoices, other and payment requests for accuracy;

• Ensure proper approvals for all disbursements;

• Maintain and suggest updates to approval authority matrix;

• Code invoices and other payments according to budget;

• Review budgeted to actual expenses and flag accounts that are over budget;

• Initiate ACH and Wire payments through Bank of America CashPro system;

• Manage credit card accounts, including collection of staff receipts, descriptions, proper coding according to budget, and imports into accounting software (currently Abila MIP);

• Perform timely processing of expense reimbursement requests;

• Enter new vendors into MIP and collect W-9’s;

• Prepare 1099 forms annually

Technology

• Assist with the evaluation of current process and areas for improvement;

• Research software solutions and third party applications to automate manual processes;

• Assist with the implementation of automated accounts payable process;

• Collaborate with other departments to coordinate applications and technology used across the organization

Charity Registrations

• Serve as the organization’s point of contact for Charity Registrations (currently 39 States);

• Facilitate the annual renewal process for the Charity Registration in each State

Research

• Serve as the Finance department’s point of contact to research prior payments, payment status, and vendor history;

• Follow up on all returned ACH and wire transfers;

• Facilitate the development of payment templates and payment instructions for regular vendors

Reconciliation

• Quarterly (and in December weekly) reconciliation of donations from accounting software to Salesforce for all outgoing transfers to partner and non-partners;

• Assist Senior Accountant with the monthly bank reconciliation

• Ability to get along and work effectively with others.

Education and/or Experience:  

• US Citizen or Green card holder;

• Fluency in English;

• Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting;

• Highly organized, with a strong attention to detail;

• Experience using cloud-based collaborative software including Google Drive, e-mail, etc.;

• Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet applications, Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets;

• Experience with Adobe DC;

• Experience with non-for-profit fund accounting (Abila MIP or Sage Intacct experience a plus);

• Familiarity with Salesforce a plus;

• Experience with foreign currency transactions and foreign currency wires a plus;

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;

• Ability to operate in and enjoy a collaborative, team-oriented culture;

Availability: 

• Full-time ~ 40 hours per week 

• Remote within the Northern California region. Candidate will be expected to drive to the San Francisco Bay area a few times a year for events and meetings.

Compensation and benefits:

Compensation is expected to be in the $70,000-$75,000 range based on qualifications and experience. In addition, benefits include medical, dental, vision insurance contributions, chiropractic/acupuncture, basic life insurance, AD&D, Health FSA and Dependent care (pre-tax payroll dollars), a retirement plan where WCN matches 100% of employee’s contribution up to 5% of employee’s salary, 11 paid holidays with 1 paid floating holiday, 15 days of paid vacation in the first year (+1 day per year worked), paid sick leave, commuter benefits program, and an employee discount program.
