Detained Youth Empowerment Project Program Coordinator

The Detained Youth Empowerment Project Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing a team of DYEP Program Associates providing support and guidance, and administrative oversight as needed. Additionally, the DYEP Program Coordinator plays a role in providing information to detained minors about their rights in the U.S., preparing detained minors for the immigration court process and assisting in acquiring pro bono legal representation.

The DYEP Program Coordinator regularly travels to local shelters to provide service to ImmDef clients.

DYEP Duties

  • Traveling to local shelters every week, the Program Associate conducts Know Your Rights (KYR) presentations and legal screenings with the purpose of determining relief qualification to detained youth
  • Initiate Representation with minors who are reunifying in our jurisdiction
  • Complete Court Prep presentations for minors the week they are due to be in court
  • •Coordinate shelter visits for two of ImmDef’s four shelters
  • Schedule all DYEP Interpreters for minors who do not speak English or Spanish, logging all DYEP interpreter calls in the interpreter log
  • Maintain Caspio data for services rendered to each minor in the DYEP Program
  • Monitor VERA data for accuracy, correcting errors as they arise
  • Assist in training new DYEP staff as requested

Coordinator Duties

  • Interview for and participate in hiring, training and onboarding of DYEP Program Associates as needed
  • Supervise, mentor and support a staff DYEP Program Associates
  • Review and approve timesheets and time off requests, tending to other attendance requests as necessary
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones with staff including participating in annual performance management cycle
  • Provide DYEP support for staff as needed

  • Highly resourceful team player, with the ability to also excel independently and efficiently manage time;
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of constituent service and response
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • 1-3 years’ experience working with child victims of traumatic events
  • Bilingual Spanish/English
  • Fluency or proficiency in K'iche', Kekchi, Chuj, or Mam is desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work under pressure
  • Enthusiasm for working at a progressive, start-up organization
  • Passion for social justice for immigrants required Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Ability to operate motor vehicle
  • Must possess personal vehicle, valid Driver’s License and current insurance

Supervisory Responsibility

This position supervises a team of DYEP Program Associates.

Classification and Work Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt position. Work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility required based on the needs of the organization.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment. Additionally, DYEP Program Coordinator will be required to conduct shelter visits multiple times a week. Travel No overnight travel is expected for this position. There is, however, frequent local day travel to a variety of youth shelters.

  •  ImmDef staff are eligible to enroll in our 401(k) plans immediately upon hire, contributing pre-tax dollars towards their retirement goals
  • After six months on staff, ImmDef will match 100% of contributions up to 3%
  • Funds are vested immediately!

Public Service Loan Forgiveness

  • As a 501(c)3, qualified ImmDef staff are eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
