Safeguarding and Social Inclusion Coordinator - Global Lead

PURPOSE:


World Renew has a suite of safeguarding policies, including a Complaints Policy. This position will support the rollout of this policy across the breadth of the organization and play a pivotal role in the ongoing development of systems and processes to strengthen and embed a safeguarding culture across the organization. This will be done by building and strengthening capacity on complaints handling throughout the organization, including supporting safeguarding and complaints focal points in their role, handling investigations and reporting on complaints. The position will also handle complaints received by World Renew Canada and World Renew US (Burlington and Grand Rapids) and coordinate all investigation processes.

Key Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1.  Complaints Policy Compliance:
  2. Overseeing the implementation of the safeguarding suite of policies, together with related procedures and guidelines, throughout the humanitarian work of World Renew;
  3. Ensuring the communication of the key contents of the Complaints Policy, and other related safeguarding policies, to all disaster response staff;
  4. Supporting and advising the Disaster Response staff and partners on the establishment of relevant and contextualized complaints mechanisms in their programming
  5.  Capacity Development:
  6. Commit to ensure their own capacity is developed and strengthened in the area of complaints handling by attending relevant training sessions on a regular basis and keeping abreast of latest developments in the sector in relation to complaints handling.
  7. Developing training material appropriate for a variety of audiences including but not limited to; general orientation for all staff, Complaints Focal Points and and board members.
  8. Document feedback and learning on the Complaints Policy during implementation to inform future revisions to the policy and guidelines.
  9. Support Preparation for CHS Mid-Term Audit by preparing an annual regional report against the CHS work plan and supporting the collection of evidence for preparing the HQAI Progress Report including updating documents on the HQAI cloud when requested.
  10.   Coordination:
  11. Convene regular meetings of the Safeguarding Coordinators to foster team dynamics & learning.
  12. Contribute to a global safeguarding learning group to surface existing practices among regions and teams, share resources and plan joint activities.
  13. Provide, as needed, ongoing support and advice to project-level Safeguarding and Complaints Focal Points on handling complaints, in general and in specific cases as requested.
  14.   Handling Complaints:
  15. Handling complaints received World Renew Canada and World Renew US by mail or through the complaints@worldrenew.net email inbox in coordination with the Complaints Handling Committee;
  16. Coordinating the functions of the Complaints Handling Committee, including calling meetings when needed; preparing relevant documentation and recommendations for discussion on specific complaints cases and handling investigations;
  17. Ensuring all information related to complaints is well documented, including a log of complaints, and that all information is kept secure with access restricted to authorized personnel only;
  18. Referring reports related to safeguarding issues (eg related to children or vulnerable adults) that do not constitute a complaint against World Renew, its staff or partners, to the relevant authorities or to organizations with the relevant expertise as necessary.
  19. Ensure appropriate cover is in place for handling complaints when on leave or unavailable for more than two days.
  20.  Handling investigations: 
  21. Coordinating all investigation processes, in coordination with the Complaints Handling Committee, including the timely appointment of investigation teams, support to the investigators where needed and enabling the presentation of the investigation team’s findings to the Hearing Committee.
  22.  Reporting and Learning:
  23. Compiling an annual complaints report for the Senior Management Team (SAC/SMC) including a global summary of the number and type of complaints received, along with information, where relevant, about how the complaint was handled and what lessons have been learned;
  24. Ensuring that the annual complaints report is submitted to the Board of Directors and made publicly available on the World Renew website;
  25. Document feedback and learning on the Complaints Policy during implementation to inform future revisions to the policy and guidelines.
  26.  Social Inclusion:
  27. Work with the International Disaster Response Team to improve our programmatic inclusion for hard to reach populations, PWD’s and marginalized groups. 
  28. Enhance data disaggregation & inclusion throughout the programme/ project cycle
  29. Contribute to the global Gender and Anti-Racism working groups and assist the IDR Director to further organizational goals and strategy in these areas.
  30.  Perform other duties as assigned

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  1.  Mature Christian, capable of applying their belief systems to their work 
  2.  Demonstrated commitment to quality and accountability in the international development sector
  3.  Proven ability to work on sensitive issues and able to maintain discretion and confidentiality
  4.  Commitment to building capacity of colleagues through training events, development of resources and providing a mentoring approach
  5.  Proactive and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  6.  Demonstrated commitment to promote a work environment, and respectful relationships, that value diversity and equality
  7.  Able and willing to work collaboratively in a team setting
  8.  Highly proficient in Microsoft Office software including MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  1.  At least a bachelor’s degree, in human resources, international development, political science or related specialty
  2.  At least 3 years-experience in complaints handling, management of investigations, compliance and/or safeguarding is a requirement
  3.  Experience working with vulnerable populations
  4.  Prior experience in policy development is a definite asset

Language Skills & Travel

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is required for this position; knowledge of an other language/s is an asset.


TRAVEL:

This position will travel to other countries, especially in support of World Renew’s disaster response. This, at times will be to remote and possibly insecure locations with limited accommodation options and access to running water and electricity and the increased incidence of communicable illness.
