Streetwork Project is the oldest street outreach program for homeless and street-involved youth in New York City. The program has grown from its beginnings in 1984 as a storefront project to encompass both outreach and comprehensive harm reduction services. Streetwork’s programs are innovative outreach-counseling programs for homeless youth, which use a harm reduction, client centered, and trauma informed approach. Services include counseling, HIV prevention, case management, drop-in, daily living services, meals, groups, legal services, syringe exchange and overdose prevention services, mental health, and medical. The core service is long-term, one-on-one counseling, which is offered in a non-judgmental and holistic manner utilizing a harm reduction approach that focuses on building trust, fostering self-esteem, exploring options and choices, and empowering youth to adapt less harmful coping mechanisms.



  • Oversee all daily activities and staffing in the Drop-In Center
  • Assist Supervising Social Worker in facilitating intakes and resolution of emergency situations
  • Assist in planning and oversight of drop-in special events & services
  • Create and manage daily scheduling for drop-in services
  • De-escalate conflicts and perform crisis intervention with youth
  • Supervise Drop-In based staff members
  • Provide supervision and oversight to drop-in staff in creation and implementation of low threshold drop-in groups and utilization of trauma informed practices
  • Collaborate with program leadership on all HIV prevention program needs and services
  • Assist with conducting HIV rapid testing
  • Provide oversight to the Sexual Health component in facilitation of HIV prevention interventions
  • Oversee data collection and documentation of component stats as well as assisting with program reports in meeting funder requirements
  • Participate in funder site visits and preparation of program documentation for audits
  • Work in collaboration with other program leadership in developing policy and procedures guidelines and program restructuring
  • Collaborate with other program leadership in promoting staff development in specific areas to meet needs of target population
  • Participate in staff trainings, staff meetings, and staff group process workshops
  • Participate in supervisory meetings
  • Participate in weekly supervision
  • Responsible for after hours on-call supervision on a rotating basis



  • A Masters or advanced degree in social service preferred, or BA and a minimum of 5 years’ experience working with homeless youth, or High School diploma/GED with at least 6 years of experience with target population.
  • Demonstrates exceptional engagement skills with youth along with knowledge of vicarious trauma and trauma-informed intervention
  • Basic understanding of issues confronting homeless youth
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

Experience providing clinical supervision and program development

  • Understanding of harm reduction philosophy and practice
  • Compassionate and non-judgmental approach
  • Lifting requirement of 20 lbs
