About Us

The Petey Greene Program supports the academic goals of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people through high-quality volunteer tutoring programs, while educating volunteers on the injustice manifest in our carceral system.

We envision a world in which all incarcerated people have access to high-quality academic programs and we strive to inspire our alumni - both students and tutors - to become advocates, and to take on leadership roles that reimagine the criminal legal system.

We operate the largest multi-state tutoring program, placing 1,000 volunteers annually to tutor 2,500 currently and formerly incarcerated people in seven states. PGP is headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey, but the majority of our 25 employees work remotely in their respective regions.

For more information about the Petey Greene Program and our work, take a look at our 2020-2023 strategic plan.

The Role

The Regional Manager will be responsible for leading the Philadelphia region and ensuring the provision of high-quality tutoring services for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated students in the greater Philadelphia area. This includes managing several programmatic and university partnerships as well as supervising a team of two other staff members. The position reports to the PGP’s Director of Regions.

In the programmatic and supervisory aspects of the role, the Regional Manager will lead the Philadelphia team in collaborating and coordinating with multiple types of partners, including higher education programs, reentry providers, and prisons and jails. The Regional Manager will support the Philadelphia staff in determining the tutoring needs of program partners and participating students, developing semester program plans and collaboration agreements, and ensuring tutors and students are matched appropriately. The position is also tasked with monitoring the quality and evaluation of the tutoring services provided, and supporting Philadelphia staff in troubleshooting issues of attendance, engagement, or academic progress in collaboration with program partners, PGP staff, tutors, or students.

In collaboration with national staff, the Regional Manager will also be responsible for leading the development of new and fully-funded programming in the Philadelphia region. This will involve cultivating relationships with potential partners and funders, pursuing fee-for-service contracts, pushing for the collection of academic data, and developing programming to create a continuum of educational support for system-impacted learners in Philadelphia, both during and after their incarceration.

Preferred candidates will reside in the greater Philadelphia area. The role is hybrid, with a combination of work-from-home days, meeting days in the community or at partner sites, and in-office days at a coworking space.
