POSITION SUMMARY
Head of School / Principal (hereafter HoS):
a. Reports to the Board directly, attending Board Meetings without voting privileges, submitting a monthly HoS Report and a Financial Report (either directly or via the Business Manager) to the Board 5 days in advance of scheduled meetings
b. Plans, conducts and overseas all day-to-day school functions and activities including crisis response
c. Supervises, inspires and trains RCS staff, academic and administrative, creating a team environment
d. Is the public face of RCS including with State/City authorities, Donors, Parent Groups, and others
e. Oversees and supervises the acquisition and utilization of financial and non-financial resources of RCS and ensures that financial record and bookkeeping personnel report out timely to the Board
f. Is the primary developer of the one year operating budget plan and major input to mid-range and strategic planning by RCS
g. Works with Board directed resource(s) to ensure digital and web presence and content is accurate and up to date
All this will be undertaken in the spirit of RCS motto and mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. General Culture. As Chief Culture Officer, HoS will
Conform all practices, policies, goals and culture to the stated mission and values of RCS, leading RCS culture by example and by instruction on site, within RCS’ online presence and while off-site representing RCS while complying with any and all laws and or regulations to which RCS is subject.
2. Accreditation. As Accreditation Team Lead, HoS will
a. Assemble a plan and support team, and oversee team to achieve full accreditation w ACSI by 2026
b. Liaise with ACSI and any further relevant accreditation(s) sought by the HoS with Board consent
3. Enrollment. As Chief Enrollment Officer, HoS will
a. Establish an annual Enrollment Calendar and process
b. Create and continually update the necessary online admission documents and process(es)
c. Screen and evaluate new applicants to ensure RCS can effectively educate them to RCS standards
d. Cultivate re-enrollment among existing students and work to grow enrollment across the 4 major institutional areas (RCS K-4, Preschool, Aftercare, Summer Camp)
4. Financials. HoS will
a. Set and maintain strict and auditable procedures for the expenditure of any cash or conveyance of any non-cash assets.
b. Set and maintain strict and auditable procedures for the ordering and for the purchasing process of RCS
c. Monitor RCS operations against budget targets, this done as part of HoS’ oversight of the Business Manager
d. Oversee 3rd party funding such as EITC, Children’s Scholarship fund; Children’s Jubilee Fund, etc., and any further Board-approved company or agency with whom RCS becomes involved
e. Oversee and develop with the Business Manager a recommendation for financial aid to next years students that complies with any and all third-party criteria for receiving scholarship monies; bring to Board for approval
5. Staffing. As Head of Staff, HoS
a. In conformity with RCS Staff Handbook, oversees all staffing, performance, attendance including time-off, contracts, and policies within well maintained human resource files for RCS persons including for the HoS
b. Oversees, executes and evaluates all staff training in line with accreditation standards
c. Retains, recruits and liaises with ‘Specials’ teachers, Substitute teachers, Learn It Specialists and other resources, including volunteers, filling in within the classroom when necessary during staff shortages
d. Ensures coverage of classrooms, hallways, recess, bathrooms is coordinated and takes place as planned
e. Ensures Library outings, field trips and Chapel are well coordinated
f. Oversees all Preschool, Afterschool Care and Summer Camp programs
g. Plans all staff meetings and professional development training, staff coaching and educational consulting
h. Ensure appropriate exit interview is coordinated with the designated board liaison, securing any resources or support needed, for any party terminating their employment during or at the end of a school year.
6. Student Safety. As executive accountable for all school safety issues, HoS
a. Maintains staff, volunteer, and student files completely and properly in a secured file, including HoS activity as well, keeping record of which files are accessed, by whom and why
b. Prepares printed or online report forms for PSD and PA Dept. of Education, PA Dept. of Health, as well as Census Bureau and IRS, SDP, the City Bussing portal, and any others as required and or needed
c. Liaises with LPC according to RCS official annual lease; and in collaboration with the LPC Building Sexton and Building and Grounds Committee to ensure complete building and grounds security under all applicable local and state laws when RCS children are on-site, enforcing the security and safety regulations for all, including contractors who may be on-site during RCS hours
d. Sets safety policies and procedures, including crisis response, and communication with first responders according to RCS Crisis Management Plan, Student Handbook and including RCS’ established perimeter safety procedures: locked perimeter doors, reporting on-site unwelcome neighbors to PPD, etc., including during Afterschool Care and Summer Camp programs
e. Executes all standard weather emergency procedures (snow days, delayed openings) consulting with surrounding schools and LPC’s Building Sexton and or Building and Grounds Committee
g. Ensures LPC Building Sexton or alternative resource sweep the facilities and grounds daily for hazards
7. Communication. As the face and voice of RCS, HoS will
a. Maintain Dojo and direct households regarding Dojo usage (or similar product should RCS change its vendor)
b. Update RCS-related social media, website, photo-stock, videos, Board and staff profiles, etc., in collaboration with the RCS Board Liaison and or web designer will secure authorizations for RCS’ use of child photos
c. Check messages received on RCS phone, Leverington extension for RCS, U.S. mail and email daily, maintaining standard procedures for sharing information with relevant parties
d. Establish consistent use of brand and language across all communications platforms through use of Style Guide in collaboration with the RCS Board Liaison and or web designer
e. Create and secure appropriate outside and inside signage for special events, daily use, Morning Drop-off and Pick up, etc.
f. Support staff with attendance calls and redemptive student discipline according to Student Discipline Policy, Expulsion Policy and Truancy Policy where and when appropriate
g. Foster strong relations with other community organizations and schools
8. Advancement. As an Advancement Team (AT) member ex-officio, HoS will
a. Consistent with the Communication section 7 above, ensure donor communications occur timely and are drafted appropriately for the recipient (first time donor, long time steady donor, IRS qualifying receipt notices, etc.) in coordination with the AT
b. Advise the AT regarding any and all planned donor communications, RCS calendar events, fundraising ideas and programs, etc.
c. Participate in donor database management (DonorPerfect); Integrate donation requests (‘asks’) and coordinate for other requestors to ‘ask’ at RCS events where outside guests are welcomed and ensure RCS gathers quality data on each attendee to any official RCS event, and especially so for each donor
d. Coordinate timing and content of the RCS Annual Report in conjunction with the at and with Board approval
e. Nurture and continue the development of the RCS brand within RCS promotional materials, uniforms and clothing, toys and giveaways, signage, etc.
f. Coordinate and lead occasional planned tours with donors and potential new families
g. Apply for grants on occasion, advising the advancement team and seeking assistance for other grants when HoS needs assistance and or support from the Board or elsewhere, always maintaining a ready list of needed items for when grants arise (i.e., Phys Ed./Tech Equipment, endowment/capital campaign) in collaboration with the advancement team.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master’s in Education or similar graduate level degree or combined professional experience
2. Willing to sign and support RCS’ mission and Statement of Faith*
3. Clearances dated in compliance with all State, Federal and or accrediting body requirements with jurisdiction over RCS (Criminal background, Child Abuse, FBI, others as they may arise)
4. Outstanding and professional oral and written communication skills
5. Ability to work independently, as well as within teams, always showing strong team leadership and motivational skills
6. Understand and carry out written and oral directions
7. Excellent organization, interpersonal skills
8. Proven ability to show self-care
9. Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
