Position: Associate Director, Jewish Community Relations Council

Location: Belltown Seattle office and remote in the Seattle area

Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week), Exempt

The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is looking for an Associate Director for the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC). In this role, you will represent and support the JCRC by setting strategic goals and fostering meaningful relationships with key leaders in the Jewish community and the broader nonprofit sector.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties and special projects may be assigned:

Key Responsibilities: 

  • JCRC Lay Leader Partnership
  • Lead JCRC Standing Committees in partnership with the Chairs - serve as the primary professional for each of the JCRC’s four standing committees: Israel Affairs, Intergroup Relations, Membership, and Public Advocacy. Responsibilities include:
  • Setting annual goals, filling vacant committee positions (as outlined by committee charters), ensuring committee members have a positive experience and the committee is made up of the most effective group of members, responding to concerns/questions/ideas from committee members, community, and Jewish professionals, ideating and helping execute on any relevant work, filling the role of the committee chair (in partnership with the JCRC Director) and ensuring the chair is effectively leading the committee’s work.
  • Partnering with JCRC Manager and Associate on committee communications, logistics, and executing resulting initiatives/events
  • Public-Facing Leadership
  • Build relationships and develop partnerships with key leaders in other minority groups, labor, nonprofits, faith, education, and more with the goal of finding common cause. 
  • Represent and speak on behalf of JCRC at events, programs, and engagements.
  • Support Jewish Community Lobby Day, JCRC retreats, and other large internal and external JCRC events.
  • Step in for the JCRC Director, when the Director is unavailable, including running convenings, speaking with media, attending high-level meetings, etc.
  • Strategy and Operations
  • In partnership with the Director, help the JCRC set strategic annual objectives and build out tactics, actively manage the department’s workflow, and assist with prioritizing initiatives, programs, and events. 
  • Crisis management - Serve as a lead member of the JCRC’s crisis response team, responding to local incidents of antisemitism, including constituent support and coaching, education and training, and public engagement.
  • Supervision
  • Supervise JCRC staff, support their growth and development, and provide consistent leadership
  • Serve as a senior partner to the JCRC Director in shaping the work of the JCRC

Supervisory Responsibilities: JCRC Manager and Associate

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Experience and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience;
  • Minimum of five years of related work and/or educational experience;
  • Minimum of two years in leadership roles including staff supervision, team building, and/or volunteer management;
  • Proven track record of strong follow-through skills, the ability to anticipate, identify, analyze, and solve problems independently
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, motivate, lead, and relate effectively to a wide variety of volunteers and professionals from diverse backgrounds 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build consensus
  • Ability to work closely with others in a team environment, and effectively interact with all levels of management, community leaders, donors, and volunteers
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated capacity to present complex information in clear and concise ways and craft persuasive messages for diverse audiences
  • Strong organizational and project management skills and ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail and manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Adaptability and flexibility; able to thrive in a fast-paced environment 
  • Professional demeanor and ability to handle all situations in a calm manner
  • High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential, sensitive issues with diplomacy and discretion
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and experience with Google products and platforms
  • Travel within King, Snohomish, and Pierce County is required as well as availability to work some evenings and Sundays

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with advocacy, policy, government relations, community organizing, or non-profit organizations.
  • Deep understanding of Jewish communal affairs, Israel, and antisemitism - trends and historical context.
  • Commitment to representing the needs of a broad, diverse Jewish community and to JCRC values.
  • Working knowledge of best practices in volunteer engagement

Position Information:

The Associate Director of JCRC reports to the Director of JCRC and Government Affairs. This is a full-time, exempt, hybrid position. Local travel is required as part of the job responsibilities.

Compensation:

  • Salary range: $80,000 - $90,000 per year, commensurate with experience. 
  • Paid time off and Holidays are as follows: Fifteen (15) vacation days and Five (5) sick days annually, Nine (9) National holidays and Jewish holidays which vary year to year.
  • Benefits available include: Medical, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, 401(k) and 403(b).
