We are seeking 4 amazing Middle School Cohort Leads, who are committed to fostering a safe, supportive environment for Black young people to become civic leaders. This position will be responsible for recruiting youth, planning and implementation of the curriculum; including planning/participating in community service activities and advocacy efforts. This position will also be responsible for supervising mentors and volunteers. The cohort lead is expected to attend required trainings and work 12 -16 hours per week. (Note: We are hiring for multiple sites. Depending on qualifications and availability, there is an opportunity for one person to lead both sites at 24-30 hours per week).

Youth Recruitment & Outreach

  • Recruit and/or retain 10-15 active youth, per cohort
  • Table and/or hold lunchtime sessions once a monthly at target schools, or find creative ways to engage youth in the work 
  • Conduct regular check-ins and 1:1s with BSA youth members 


Partnership & Parent Engagement 

  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with school partners through regular communication and opportunities to partner on projects
  • Support Program team in identifying creative ways to engage parents in the work 
  • Maintain consistent communication with parents/caregivers


Lead Middle School sessions & meetings

  • Create and facilitate interactive lesson plans twice a week for one cohort
  • Co-lead youth campaign strategy & planning meetings
  • Foster an environment for youth to lead, make decisions and strategize
  • Invite guest speakers and facilitators to sessions as needed
  • Supervise mentors and volunteers that are placed at your site
  • Be a source of emotional support for youth


Organizing & Advocacy

  • Support youth in the creation and implementation of a Black youth agenda
  • Assist in preparing youth to engage in various campaign tactics (testifying, meetings, interviews, direct actions)
  • Support the planning of youth-led community events


Administration 

  • Attend weekly team meetings
  • Attend and facilitate weekly check-ins with Program Manager and volunteers
  • Maintain records for youth, track attendance, and support data collection and evaluation efforts


Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience working with youth;
  • 1-3 years of experience facilitating trainings or workshops;
  • At least one year experience leading staff/volunteers or youth;
  • At least one year experience supporting advocacy and organizing efforts
  • Demonstrate commitment to youth leadership, racial equity and systemic change;
  • Experience working with or living in D.C (or having meaningful relationships with community)
  • We strongly encourage BIPOC to apply
  • Must be able to secure DCPS clearances
