Position Overview

The Project Manager (PM) is a critical member of the Strategic Initiatives (SI) team. The mission of the SI Team is to ensure the organization achieves its most important goals by linking long-term business plans to annual goals and budgets through inclusion and effective org-wide structures and practices. Responsibilities include owning the development, training, rollout, and ongoing adoption of consistent and effective Change Management and Project Management standards, practices, and tools at College Track. This role will directly manage large org-wide impactful cross-functional projects and require a high degree of collaboration and coordination between national, regional, and site teams.

The ideal candidate will have deep project management expertise with a passion for leading cross-functional project teams toward improved outcomes. Thrives working cross-functionally in a highly collaborative way, can balance “getting things done” with connecting with people. Can delve deeply into details at times while also having the ability to step out of the weeds to see the broader picture. Able to lead strategic conversations to approach problem-solving and get to final decisions creatively. We seek someone who enjoys working with others at all levels across the organization in service of our mission. This position reports to the Vice President of Strategic Initiatives. This role is one national position based in any of the following locations: Oakland, CA; New Orleans, LA; Denver, CO; Los Angeles, CA; Washington, DC.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

Project Management (PM) and Change Management (CM) (~70%)

  • Project manage high leverage strategic projects to ensure the objectives are achieved
  • Serve as a thought partner and trusted advisor to the project owner
  • Buildout thorough project plans that guide the work and project team through the complexities of change management and communications planning
  • Manage outcomes, milestones, and deliverables. Throughout the project’s lifecycle, take note of potential risks and build mitigation strategies directly into the project plan in alignment with the College Track culture and honoring our core values of Commitment, Passion, Joy, Authenticity, and Excellence.
  • Facilitate effective decision-making conversations that include key stakeholders whom the change will impact
  • Elevate project risks coupled with potential solutions

Build, evolve, and rollout PM & CM resources (~30%)

  • Establish Standards: Build out a set of project management and change management standards that serves as a consistent guideline for all projects and change efforts
  • Develop Practices & Tools: Create and continue to improve a project management and change management “toolbox” that includes the simple templates needed for projects and change efforts to be managed consistently and effectively (to define project objectives, set key performance metrics, establish project approach, and streamline communications, rituals to celebrate successes, etc.)
  • Iterate Practices & Tools: Informed by internal feedback and external best practices, continue to refine, simplify, and improve the College Track’s project management standards, resources, and tools.
  • Training and Rollout: Develop training materials and determine the best approach for implementing the new resources with project owners across the organization
  • Project Advisory: Provide advisory support to project owners for effectively using standards, practices, and tools to support roll-outs.

Skills & Experience Required

First and foremost, the Project Manager must embrace the College Track vision of transforming low-income communities into places where college readiness and graduation are the norms.

Additionally, candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field
  • Minimum five years project/change management experience
  • Comfortable learning and working with a variety of planning and business management tools. Experience with monday.com is a plus.
  • Is accountable for results, approaches obstacles proactively, and looks for ways to resolve issues.
  • Experience with bringing projects from initial conception through completion
  • Well-versed in the Google suite of products and especially comfortable with Google Sheets and Google Slides.
  • Preferably has experience with monday.com or other project management tools.
  • Operates with a high sense of urgency and responsiveness balanced by a need for providing accurate information based on strategic priorities.
  • Extremely detail-oriented, well-organized, and structured in the creation and presentation of information.
  • Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously; Uses sound judgment to prioritize and meet deadlines, copes well with change, and maintains composure under pressure.
  • Exceptional communication skills with demonstrable ability to write effectively, speak persuasively, listen attentively, and nuanced ability to tailor communication to the audience.
  • Believes strongly in celebrating success while also constantly seeking to improve on the current state.
  • Is obsessively customer-driven -- understands both the explicit and underlying business needs, is proactive, stays on point for strategic value-add, and is responsive without being unproductively reactive to team-member and external-party needs.
  • A high degree of flexibility and adaptability; can work within an ambitious, fast-moving environment while also driving clarity and solution.

Additional Requirements

College Track requires that the holder of this position be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as defined by the CDC. College Track will require proof of vaccination from each current and future employee
