Who We Are?

Boston Prep Charter Public School (Boston Prep) is an integrated middle school, high school, and alumni support program rooted in a belief that all students deserve access to an exceptional public education that develops the skills, habits, knowledge, and competencies students require to create a life of their choosing. With a mission to prepare students to succeed in post-secondary life and embody, in thought and action, lifelong ethical growth, we are fueled by a core set of values and a shared belief that all students can achieve at the highest levels. We invest in the creation of safe, productive, and affirming communities grounded in shared commitments to one another and to ourselves and provide dedicated time for practices that support personal and professional growth of students and adults alike. We believe that relationships are the heart of our community and we must develop the whole child, devoting attention to development of both the heart and the mind, balancing accelerated academic learning and social emotional learning because they are interconnected. 

Key Responsibilities of the Role:

Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

• Creating a classroom environment where students are authentically engaged in learning tasks
• Designing and implementing curriculum and materials that are culturally responsive, affirming of students, and aligned with state and grade level standards
• Collaborating with co-teachers and other specialists to deliver high quality, differentiated instruction to meet the individual needs of students, including students with special needs and English Language Learners
• Continually gathering and using data to inform instruction
• Providing targeted feedback on student work to drive student engagement, practice and growth
• Anchoring a feedback system in grading practices that focus on what students know and have learned
• Teaching 4 classes per day
• Assuming tutoring responsibilities, after school and during school day

Partnering with Students and Families

• Mentoring 8-15 students, through advisory meetings and with the Valor circle model, that strives to bring personal growth and connection to the student experience at Boston Prep
• Communicating frequently with students, families, and school leaders around academic and behavioral progress
• Attending occasional after-school events

Building of School Culture

• Partnering with team members, students and families, to actively uproot racism and inequality in our community 
• Modeling empathy, embodying the mindset that “kids do well if they can”
• Upholding school and grade level systems and structures with fidelity
• Assuming extracurricular responsibilities, if desired 

Maintenance of Organizational Culture

• Actively engaging in one’s learning; seeking and acting on feedback regularly
• Actively pursuing professional development, inside and outside of the school
• Collaborating with other teachers and school leaders to advance the school’s mission
