Adult Basic and pre-GED Math Instructors - multiple schedule options available

Beyond Literacy (BeLit) is a non-profit adult, youth and family education agency dedicated to providing a wide range of literacy services, including reading, writing, math, life and work skills, to help a diverse population of learners meet their academic needs and achieve their personal and employment-related goals.

Beyond Literacy follows all CDC, City and State health and safety guidelines to protect staff and students from COVID-19 infection. Employees must provide proof of full vaccination (including booster) before starting position.

Math/STEM Instructors – Multiple schedule options available

JOB SUMMARY

Instructors serve as members of the BeLit Education Team. There are several positions available working with adults (18+) developing, adapting and delivering Math instruction aligned to the College and Career Readiness Standards and preparing students to pass the high school equivalency exam or prepare for aptitude assessments established by employer partners.

Current hiring needs include:

Schedule: Full Time, Part Time and Evening options available

Subject: Math

Populations to be served: Adults (18+)

PA Criminal history and/or FBI clearances are required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning & Instruction

1.    Review student/learner data to prepare lessons targeting identified instructional needs.

2.    Instruct learners at various educational functioning levels (EFL).

3.    Integrate technology and supplemental activities into classroom instruction.

4.    Monitor learner progress using formal and informal assessments.

5.    Prepare progress reports and learning plans for all students after summative assessments.

Data Tracking & Recording

1.    Maintain accurate and timely attendance and other records, e.g., daily attendance sign-ins, weekly attendance entry, reporting of core and secondary goals and outcomes.

2.    Maintain complete, accurate and secure student folders.

Professional Development & Staff Meetings

1.    Engage in job-embedded professional development to improve student outcomes.

2.    Attend required assessment training and refresher courses.

3.    Actively participate in staff, program and education team meetings.  

Partnership Goals

1.   Maintain a positive working relationship with partner program team.

2.   Check and respond promptly to email and voice mail messages (within 1 business day).

3.   Work collaboratively to achieve program goals.

4.   Actively participate in partner agency meetings.

5.   Regularly communicate challenges, proposed solutions and successes to supervisor and partner agency.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in a Math- or STEM-related field of study required.   
• Minimum of one year's classroom teaching experience required (may include internship, volunteer teaching assignment, or small group tutoring).
• Experience in adult education or alternative education preferred.
• Experience using remote and/or hybrid teaching platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams, Google Classroom) preferred.
• Knowledge of College and Career Readiness Standards, and standards-based lesson planning.
• Experience with Access, LACES, e-Data or Excel used as a database (or other data management systems) preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to support the use of a variety of technology and courseware in the classroom, such as Khan Academy, Essential Education, IXL and KET Fast Forward desirable.

• Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Strong oral communication and presentation skills.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite; experience using Microsoft Office 365/SharePoint a plus.
