    Job Posting - Director of Youth Ministry

    The goal of this position: Engage youth (grades 6 - 12) in church activities and develop ministries to nurture their spiritual growth, help them experience Jesus’ love, and foster their relationships with God and each other. Assist with ministry to younger children in an effort to build relationships. Welcome and lead according to WCUCC’s mission and Welcome Statement.

    Director of Youth Ministry Hours: This position can be part-time (25 hours/week) or full-time (40 hours/week). We are seeking the right candidate and have modified the responsibilities based on the needs and desires of the most qualified candidate.

    Reports to: Pastor (Rev. Susan Langner)

    Compensation: If part-time (25-30 hours/week) nonexempt $26,000 - $34,300 annually; If full-time (40 hours/week) exempt: $42,000 - $46,000

    Benefits:

    • Ten days of paid vacation per year (including up to two Sundays)
    • One additional week off after the mission trip
    • Paid holidays as defined in the Employee Handbook
    • A full-time Director will receive an educational benefit of $1500 per year, for up to three years, for expenses toward educational advancement in a theological program and/or youth ministry, as approved by the Board of Human Resources
    • Full-time employees (30 hrs/week or more) receive a healthcare allowance

    Qualifications:

    • Availability to minister to and provide programming for youth on evenings and weekends
    • Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred
    • 3-5 years of experience organizing, leading, and teaching youth (through high school), preferably in a ministry setting
    • Some theological training strongly preferred, in-line with the United Church of Christ’s beliefs

    Personal Characteristics, Skills, and Requirements:

    • Must be a professed Christian seeking to follow in the way of Jesus’ path toward love, justice, hope, grace, and mercy.
    • Proven demonstration of creating a welcoming environment
    • Embrace of WCUCC’s Welcome Statement and comfort in teaching the theology of WCUCC
    • A love for young people and deep interest in relating to and leading them
    • Ability to develop positive relationships with all members of the congregation
    • Strong organizational, communication, and administrative skills
    • A team player, willing to assist colleagues and members alike
    • Ability to build and lead a team of adult volunteers
    • Must submit information for a background check and results must meet expectations before beginning employment.
    • The successful candidate will be required to complete Child Abuse Prevention training and follow all WCUCC protection and integrity policies.
    • The successful candidate will be certified in First-Aid and CPR, or complete the training through the church.

    Responsibilities and Essential Duties for PART-TIME Director of Youth Ministry:

    • Attend weekly worship services and fellowship time, as well as special services (ex: Holy Week services), prioritizing relationship-building with members of all ages. Occasionally lead the Sunday morning Children’s Sermon, and assist with the service and/or children’s programming as necessary.
    • Design and lead middle and high school ministry, which includes faith formation, fellowship, and missions.
    • Prepare, empower, and lead WCUCC youth in hosting annual Youth Sunday worship service.
    • Co-plan/co-lead the annual inter-generational summer mission trip.
    • Serve as staff liaison to the Board of Christian Education and support volunteer Sunday school teachers as needed.
    • Communicate clearly and regularly with youth and parents, which includes managing WCUCC youth social media accounts, weekly emails, and other relevant methods
    • Engage in youth ministry continuing education.

    Responsibilities and Essential Duties for FULL-TIME Director of Youth Ministry include all of the above, plus the following:

    • Design and lead occasional mid-week programming for high school youth
    • Help manage the church’s Abuse Prevention procedures
    • Support Sunday school volunteer teachers (lead occasional Children’s Worship, order elementary Sunday school curriculum, assist in training and supporting teachers, and maintain Christian Education closet and supplies)
    • Lead quarterly youth groups for younger children in each of elementary age groups (PreK - Kindergarten; 1st & 2nd grade; 3rd - 5th grade)
    • Co-lead Confirmation Class with the pastors (typically once per month, October - May).
    • Develop and lead the five-day summer middle school Vacation Bible Adventure (VBA) program
    • Encourage engagement of members in supporting our youth outside of church; this could include reinvigorating and managing the “Fan Club,” which promotes youth extracurricular activities
    • Counsel youth and their parents as necessary, or refer to pastors or professional counselors as appropriate.
    • Serve as office administrative back-up when necessary
