The mission of the Impact Manager is to supervise, coach, and develop a team or teams of 6-10 full-time City Year AmeriCorps Members during their 10-month term of service to implement the Whole School, Whole Child program at a Dallas Independent School District school or schools. This includes leading AmeriCorps Members as they implement attendance and social-emotional learning coaching, academic tutoring in math and literacy, afterschool programming, and events and initiatives aimed at building a positive school culture and climate. This full-time position is primarily based at one school campus, with additional time spent at the City Year Dallas office. A member of the Impact Department and reporting directly to the Impact Director, the Impact Manager’s role is focused on coaching their team to support off-track students and build a positive school culture, collaborating with school partners to ensure conditions for success at the school house, and developing the AmeriCorps Members both personally and professionally. Additional responsibilities include designing and implementing site wide projects, designing and leading trainings for AmeriCorps Members on office-based and school-based Learning and Development Days, participating in and collaborating on staff development, and supporting other City Year Dallas departments (Development, Recruitment and Admissions, Operations, etc.).



Responsibilities


AmeriCorps Member Experience Delivery

  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of AmeriCorps members (ages 18-25) to achieve quantitative and qualitative student growth and reach their leadership development potential
  • Model leadership that reflects City Year’s culture and values and create spaces that empower AmeriCorps members to access the power of City Year’s culture and values in personally meaningful ways
  • Implement and lead AmeriCorps Members through City Year’s performance management protocol, which includes bi-weekly leadership development coaching sessions and start-of-year, mid-year, and end-of-year performance reviews
  • Support AmeriCorps Members’ Leadership After City Year (LACY) programming, which includes professional skills development and college and career coaching towards positions after their term of service
  • Develop talent from within the corps for City Year and the larger education field, and lead AmeriCorps members to have a successful and rewarding year of service through their in-school service and learning and development curriculum


Service Delivery

  • Develop and manage partnerships with school administration, teachers, and staff to ensure the necessary conditions and resources are in place for AmeriCorps members to deliver attendance, social-emotional learning, and course performance interventions for students
  • Oversee implementation of school-based assessments (Math Inventory, Reading Inventory, DESSA) necessary for student progress monitoring and end-of-year student performance reports
  • Lead, manage, and coach a team of AmeriCorps members to implement City Year’s service model, which balances the delivery of whole-school and whole-class support (Tier 1) and small group and one-on-one tutoring (Tier 2) for at-risk students at assigned Dallas Independent School District school
  • Provide bi-weekly observation and coaching to AmeriCorps members to ensure model fidelity and to improve student interventions
  • Support the collection, monitoring, and analysis of student- and school-level data, from both school and City Year electronic systems, to identify trends and improve whole-school, whole-class, and small-group and one-on-one support, ensuring student impact completion and improvement in targeted areas
  • Support AmeriCorps Member learning and development by designing and facilitating trainings in both office- and school-based settings


Service Partner Management

  • Serve as the primary representative of City Year at the assigned Dallas Independent School District school, collaborating with stakeholders to effectively align and balance school, City Year, and team needs, priorities, and goals
  • Build and cultivate strong partnerships with teachers, administrators, school officials, and other decision-makers and stakeholders within the assigned Dallas Independent School District school
  • In collaboration with the Managing Director of Impact, implement City Year’s annual school partner management process, including creating a mutually beneficial Statement of Partnership for each fiscal year
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to principal and school staff by serving as a member of the school’s Instructional Leadership Team (if possible), holding monthly meetings with principal and/or other administrators and monthly check-ins with partner teachers, maintaining a strong and visible presence in school, working collaboratively with administration and staff to implement the Whole School Whole Child model, and building a bridge between AmeriCorps members and school staff to ensure success
  • Use sound judgement to coach AmeriCorps Members to solve conflicts with partner teachers in mutually beneficial ways, taking an active role when necessary


Organizational Initiatives

  • Participate in bi-weekly Impact Meetings and weekly Impact Manager Collaboration Spaces.
  • Participate in bi-weekly Staff/Village Meetings
  • Support in the identification and cultivation of prospective Service Leaders (second-year AmeriCorps Members)
  • Support the Development Department through school- and site-specific corporate and external partner engagement, such as school visitor programs, corporate programming for AmeriCorps Members and students, and school-based corporate volunteer service projects
  • Support the Recruitment and Admissions Department by interviewing prospective AmeriCorps Members, representing City Year at local career fairs, and hosting prospective AmeriCorps Member school visits
  • Identify, participate in, and support other organizational initiatives and projects, as needed.

  • Ability to build positive, strong, and mutually beneficial relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including AmeriCorps Members, colleagues and peers, school partners (administration, teachers, support staff, etc.), and external partners utilizing emotional intelligence, social awareness, and cultural competency
  • Ability to successfully coach, influence, negotiate, and implement choice architecture across all relationships
  • Ability to operationalize City Year’s mission and vision by breaking down goals, initiatives, and projects into manageable steps and objectives for pertinent stakeholders
  • Ability to quickly develop fluency in City Year’s service model and culture



Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in education or related field strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a school, educational, or youth-support setting required
  • Experience leading others; management experience preferred
  • Experience working in areas related to English Language Arts, math, general academic tutoring, social-emotional learning, attendance coaching, building a positive school culture and climate, afterschool programming, or social work preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and present ideas with clarity, credibility, humility, and tact; lead with “the why” and incorporate vision into messaging; tailor messaging to audience and maintain professionalism in speaking and writing
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate and plan for questions, listen carefully, provide constructive feedback, and remain open and responsive to feedback from others
  • Demonstrated ability to balance empowerment with clear and effective oversight of projects and initiatives
  • Proven success operating in ambiguous and changing environments with the demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize projects; delegate tasks appropriately; and manage progress against goals for self and others while addressing barriers
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and operate in a proactive and solution- oriented manner; identify the information needed to solve a problem; link decisions to potential consequences and know when to escalate or seek guidance

  • Demonstrated ability to address and resolve team conflict quickly, effectively, and tactfully

  • Strong connection to the values of servant leadership, belief in the power of young people, social justice, empathy, inclusivity, diversity, teamwork, and excellence
  • Passion for and understanding of City Year’s work within the national service movement and education sphere
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office platforms required; experience using SharePoint preferred
  • Spanish language proficiency a plus
