What the Development Coordinator does

The Development Coordinator position is key in assisting AGU to promote discovery in Earth and space science for the benefit of humanity by being operational in focus. The purpose of the position is to provide daily back-end support to AGU’s Development program ensuring that management of the department in focusing on the larger objectives of the group, satisfying the needs of donors, volunteers, and internal departments of AGU.

The incumbent in this role will hold responsibility for a wide array of back-end processes and will assist the Development team including work supporting individual and major giving, foundations and government grants, and corporate philanthropy.

This position reports to the Assistant Director, Development.

·      Responsible for the maintenance of Development department’s records, system needs, and donor gifts in the netForum association management system, as well Development’s presence on agu.org.

·      Oversees gift entry and recurring gift processes.

·      Responsible for accurate gift receipting and timely acknowledgment letters and other correspondence.

·      Compiles monthly and weekly reporting on the activity, donor, funding stream and department level – i.e., the Weekly Accomplishment Reporting, Individual Giving Comparison Report, Development Revenue Reporting, Development Activity Reporting, etc.

·      Assists on special projects such as:

§ Coordinating and compiling individual and major donor reports

§ Benchmark research and reporting, such as organizational trending reports

·      Responds to donor inquiries and maintain the department email inbox in a professional manner while always keeping a mind to moving them into the development pipeline.

·      Coordinates prospect research requests.

·      Coordinates quarterly AGU Impact donor newsletters utilizing information and news from across AGU.

·      Coordinates logistics for donor events and other meetings – restaurant identification, invitation lists, RSVPs, etc.

·      Assists in the planning of stewardship events at various AGU offsite meetings, including logistical needs, schedules, invitations and other needs from various departments so that goals are met.

·      Supports Foundation & Government Grants Manager in research for funding opportunity and impacts, preparing reports, establishing and maintaining filing systems with grants teams across departments, etc.

·      Maintains AGU base-line information required by prospective funders – individuals and foundations.

·      Represents the Development Team at bi-weekly Social SCRUM and Editorial Center meetings and other meetings as needed.

·      Other duties as assigned.

What the Development Coordinator brings to the team

·      Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of experience in admin support; Development admin support preferred.

·      Experience with an association management system, content management systems, and database programs; fundraising database platforms preferred.

·      Experience with Microsoft Office – including Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.

·      Demonstrated initiative and sound judgment, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·      Ability to communicate and present information clearly, easily and effectively with coworkers, scientists, researchers, and donors.

·      Ability to work within the scientific community and communicate science to a non-scientific community.

·      Exceptional skills in Microsoft Office – including Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.

·      Exceptional experience with database programs; fundraising database platforms preferred

·      Ability to work as a member of a small, interconnected team

·      Ability to project a professional demeanor while interacting with people having diverse backgrounds and professional levels.

·      Thoughtful and dynamic; solution-oriented problem solver; self-starter.

·      Ability to multitask, effectively prioritize and work well under pressure to meet sensitive project deadlines.

·      Demonstrated strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

·      Ability to demonstrate accuracy and quality of work in a fast-paced work environment.

·      Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.

·      Ability to travel.
