Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund (“Everytown for Gun Safety”) is the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country. Everytown for Gun Safety’s Community Safety Initiatives (CSI) team, focuses on scaling promising community-based violence intervention strategies, and is seeking a Program Manager to help scale efforts to build the capacity of communities grappling with high levels of gun violence. CSI leads Everytown’s Community Safety Fund, which has supported 70 organizations in 42 cities since 2019, manages CityGRIP.org, Everytown’s online clearinghouse of gun violence reduction strategies and in 2020, launched the Everytown Community Training Institute, a collaborative initiative with national subject matter experts, to build the capacity of community members, local leaders and community-based violence intervention programs implementing promising strategies to reduce gun violence in cities. The Program Manager will be a critical member of the CSI team and responsible for the development and administration of the Community Training Institute and other strategic initiatives, monitoring and ensuring program success, providing strategic guidance to partners, facilitating the delivery of in-person and remote workshops, leading work product and program development, leading cross-departmental collaborations, and managing external engagement with national subject matter experts, elected officials and advisors. The Program Manager reports to the Director of Community Safety Initiatives.

Candidates should be self-starters with a proven track record of grant management and/or administration, have an interest in community safety and be familiar with emerging trends in violence prevention strategy and relevant community dynamics. This position is based in New York City and will require travel (when it is safe to do so).

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a growing capacity-building training program which deploys national subject matter experts to cities grappling with high gun violence, to scale promising reduction strategies.
  • Develop strategic initiatives, including but not limited to, capacity building, resource development and programming, in support of community members, local leaders and community-based violence intervention programs working to implement promising gun violence prevention strategies in cities.
  • Develop insight and impact reports for internal and external audiences to raise program awareness and inform strategy.
  • Collaborate with national subject matter experts, partners and consultants to develop and deliver in-person and remote capacity-building workshops in partnership with community members, local leaders and community-based violence intervention programs.
  • Direct engagement with volunteers, staff and partners to inform city selection for workshops.
  • Conduct research and analysis of prospective cities, partners, workshop proposals, and strategy.
  • Lead and coordinate convening and capacity building workshops of community members, local leaders and community-based violence intervention programs and volunteers.
  • Evaluate and enhance Community Training Institute and CSI’s resource development and capacity-building initiatives.
  • Coordinate with communications and digital teams to further amplify programs and partners.
  • Coordinate periodic communications with staff and partners.
  • Coordinate with prospective partners to develop scopes of work and for receipt of financial documents.
  • Track and monitor budget, partner agreements, contract disbursements and engagement with city leaders, partners, community members, community-based violence intervention programs and elected officials.
  • Manage related direct data entry.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of work experience in city or state government, a non-profit or foundation, including 2+ years developing and/or coordinating capacity building/training programs.
  • Prior experience administering a capacity building/training program.
  • Prior experience drafting RFPs and evaluating proposed budgets, a plus.
  • Prior experience developing metrics and measuring program and partner performance.
  • Demonstrated experience producing written products for non-technical audiences using clear, accessible language. 
  • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills, with the ability to develop problem-solving strategies and adapt those strategies as needed.
  • Proven track record facilitating engagement, managing partnerships and building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including community-based organizations, advocates and community members.
  • Exceptional project management, written, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience presenting at conferences and events.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to carefully vet public-facing materials.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to a fast-paced, high-intensity environment.
  • Ability to take initiative and manage projects assigned through completion with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as a highly resourceful team player under pressure and within deadlines.
  • Creative and innovative thinker, who actively presents new opportunities, proposes solutions and recommends best practices.
  • Ability to anticipate challenges and effectively resolve potential issues through creative problem solving.
  • Ability to work creatively and with flexibility in a fast paced environment while maintaining high work standards.
  • Advanced MS Office Skills
  • Ability to develop rapport and engender trust.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude and professional demeanor.
  • Graduate degree preferred
  • Comfortable with up to 15% travel (when it is safe to do so).
