Position: Program Associate - DEI

Salary: $48,000 - $50,000 (annually)

Type: Full-Time Non-Exempt (hourly)

Reports to: Program Manager

Start Date: ASAP

Organizational Background:

Equality California is the nation’s largest statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer+ (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization with over 900,000 members. Equality California brings the voices of LGBTQ+ people and allies to institutions of power in California and across the United States, striving to create a world that is healthy, just, and fully equal for all LGBTQ+ people. We advance civil rights and social justice by inspiring, advocating, and mobilizing through an inclusive movement that works tirelessly on behalf of those we serve. For more than 20 years, Equality California has been fighting for full, lived LGBTQ+ equality in a number of ways: electing pro-equality leaders up and down the ballot; passing pro-equality legislation in California, Nevada and Washington, DC; and fighting for LGBTQ+ civil rights and social justice in the courtroom.

Equality California Institute is a 501(c)(3) organization that has a parallel mission to Equality California, its 501(c)(4) counterpart. Equality California Institute works to achieve full, lived LGBTQ+ equality by reducing disparities in LGBTQ+ health and well-being, developing a pipeline of LGBTQ+ leaders and increasing civic participation within the LGBTQ+ community.

Position Overview:

Equality California Institute seeks a full-time Program Associate to support implementation of the LGBTQ+ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training program, contribute to the expansion of a digital and on-demand LGBTQ+ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training program for a variety of sectors and social service providers, and assist with grant management. In addition to this primary role, the Program Associate will also support Equality California Institute's array of other programming, including, but not limited to, Pride festival participation, LGBTQ+ convenings, and community outreach and organizing.

Equality California Institute's LGBTQ+ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Training program gives service providers the tools and training they need to understand the unique needs of their LGBTQ+ clients and increase delivery of gender-affirming and LGBTQ+ competent care. Through the LGBTQ+ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Training program, Equality California Institute has trained over 4,000 services providers at healthcare organizations, homeless service agencies, and other organizations, established health action teams with partner LGBTQ+, healthcare and immigration organizations from across the state focused on meeting the unique healthcare needs of each community, and convened community town halls in cities across the state focused on LGBTQ+ healthcare and navigating the changing landscape of access to care.

This position will be based in Los Angeles and will report to the Program Manager.

Responsibilities:

1. Serve as an Equality California Institute Program Associate by primarily supporting Equality California Institute's LGBTQ+ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Training program. This work includes:

  • Developing supplemental training materials.
  • Facilitating LGBTQ+ cultural competency trainings across the state.
  • Contributing to the expansion of a digital and on-demand LGBTQ+ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training database for service providers.

2. Support Equality California Institute’s Pride Parade and Festival outreach and education programming statewide:
