opportunity to lead a well-established, play-based, community preschool in Oak Park, IL.

The School

Pilgrim Community Nursery School is a private, nonprofit,

secular nursery school serving Oak Park, Illinois and surrounding communities (https://www.pilgrimschool.net/). We welcome children of all races, religions, ethnic

backgrounds, and economic situations and seek a student body that represents

the rich diversity of the greater Oak Park area. Pilgrim

The Director Position

We are looking for a community-minded, collaborative and

family-oriented Director to move us forward into 2022-23. The Director role is part-time (25-30 hours/week) and

non-teaching; it provides leadership, direction and supervision to children,

staff and families. This position works

collaboratively with the Nursery School Board and staff to produce an enriching

play-based early childhood education program for the children and families

enrolled in the Pilgrim Community Nursery School.




















DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS









·      

Lead

an educational program that meets the needs of pre-school age children and

their families 



·      

Collaborate

with staff to develop and provide positive play-based learning activities



·      

Meet

regularly with the PCNS Board, staff and Senior Pastor



·      

Represent

the Nursery School in the community and professional peers and actively work to

promote the school to potential families



·      

Along

with the Board, work with parents as part of a Parent/Teacher Organization

(PTO) to enhance community-building, fundraising and use of technology (social

media)



·      

Hire

and supervise all Nursery School staff, including providing new employee

orientation and regular feedback and evaluations



·      

With

the Nursery School treasurer and the Pilgrim Church financial staff, draft

annual budget for approval by the PCNS Board



·      

Ensure

that the Nursery School continues to meet standards required to maintain DCFS

licensing and NAEYC accreditation



·      

Establish

and execute illness and emergency response procedures in accordance with requirements

of Oak Park Public Health Department and DCFS



·      

Maintain

staff and student records



·      

Other

appropriate duties as required



 



QUALIFICATIONS



 



PCNS strives to maintain the higher standards

set forth by NAEYC, in addition to DCFS requirements. As such, the position of

Director at PCNS requires a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree with:



  • 9 credit-bearing hours in
  • specialized college-level coursework in administration, leadership, or
  • management
  • At least 24 credit-bearing
  • hours of specialized college-level coursework in Early Childhood
  • Education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood
  • special education that address child development and learning from birth
  • through kindergarten
  • Experience teaching in a
  • preschool setting



 



In addition, the Director should be someone who:



  • Authentically enjoys children
  • Has computer skills, including
  • word processing and e-mail competency



·      

Demonstrates

the ability to organize work and workspace



·      

Exhibits

good verbal and written communication skills



·      

Has

knowledge of child development necessary for implementing developmentally

appropriate early childhood curriculum



·      

Has

good people skills and an ability to function as part of a team



·      

Brings

experience working with a variety of children, assessing special needs, and referring

families to other services as needed



·      

Will

pass a background and security screening



 



REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS



 



Maintain professional skills and qualifications through seminars

and continuing education programs.
