  • Our Community Organizing program empowers groups of residents to collectively secure longer term and larger scale improvements to their own basic needs.
  • Our Education & Career Services program imparts individual community members with the practical tools necessary to build secure and prosperous futures.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is a direct service position working with young adult candidates (participants) between the ages of 16 and 24 engaged in programs within NMIC’s Youth Career Services Portfolio.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively participate in candidate screening, eligibility determination, intake, assessment and enrollment.
  • Manage a caseload of young adults (16-24) during the orientation, work experience/training and follow-up phases of a work readiness training program.
  • Assist in marketing material distribution.
  • Meet with enrolled candidates one-on-one to develop individual service plans, set goals and plan engagement in educational, internship, employment and occupational skills training programs.
  • Conduct bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with candidates to review progress towards stated goals and to address their needs and challenges.
  • Conduct follow-up, including home visits, to ensure regular candidate engagement and attendance during the orientation and work experience/training phases of programming.
  • Connect candidates with referral resources to meet their needs, including professional attire, housing, medical services or other social services.
  • Identify advanced skills training, secondary and post-secondary educational opportunities that meet candidates’ needs for post-program placements.
  • Follow up with candidates after they transition to alumni services to connect them with employment services, collect employment/training verifications and process incentives.
  • Update and maintain candidate records including participation/attendance and case notes in various databases.
  • Facilitate assigned workshops across youth programming and intake testing across all education and career services programming as assigned.
  • Participate in unit, departmental and agency meetings as required.
  • Attend all assigned trainings and external meetings.

Additional related responsibilities may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA in human services, social work or a related field.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in workforce development, education and/or youth development strongly preferred.
  • Superb organizational, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to motivate young adults and forge strong relationships is essential.
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required.

Additional Covid-19 Information:

Per New York City guidelines for contractors, the Covid-19 vaccine is mandatory for NMIC staff whose positions require them to work in person. Medical and religious accommodations may be requested and if granted will require weekly Covid-19 testing. Vaccination status will only be requested at the time of hiring by Human Resources. NMIC staff are required to follow all stated safety protocols including mask and social distancing guidelines.

SALARY/BENEFITS:

NMIC offers a competitive salary based on experience and education as well as a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, life, and disability insurance; paid time off including 20 vacation days, 15 sick days, 5 personal days, and 12 agency holidays; a 401k with agency contribution; and other benefits.
