Digital Content Manager for ProgressNow

Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Program Director and Executive Team at Progress Now.

Primary Areas of Responsibility: Digital content creation and dissemination (60%), Content development training  (40%).

Job Classification: Full Time, Exempt

This is not an entry level position. 

 

Position Summary: 

The content manager will work with in-state communications organizers to provide a steady stream of compelling social media to volunteers who will then use that content in their own storytelling. They are responsible for looking at national stories and rapid response opportunities, and distilling those down into usable Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok posts that will help to create a compelling progressive narrative as well as combat misinformation and disinformation being spread on social media channels. The content manager should be well versed in social media strategy, the sorts of content that work on different platforms and the power of individual storytelling in order to accomplish these goals.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:

Digital content creation and dissemination (60%)

  • Create Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok samples that can be used by organizers and volunteers in targeted states to promote progressive values and issues
  • Work directly with in-state organizers to localize national stories and ensure that content being generated is relevant to local audiences
  • Monitor the national media landscape and create rapid response materials that state organizers and volunteers can use to push back on misinformation and disinformation
  • Work with national staff including the national data manager to analyze metrics around social media content usage and engagement in order to inform the content creation process and help in-state organizers think through the best way to create compelling material 
  • Collaborate with other team members to develop strategies and materials that serve volunteer needs
  • Build out guides for volunteers around how to take sample content and personalize it
  • Proactively look for creative applications of new communications tools, techniques, and channels.

Content development training (40%)

  • Work with senior Progress Now leadership on the design and development of a content creation training program for an audience of volunteers
  • Create materials that help volunteers understand the power of storytelling, and how to empathetically connect with their audiences on various platforms as a way to help change minds
  • Develop easy to use guides for volunteers to help them become better video content creators
  • Assist in the training of volunteers in the use of canva and other tools for basic graphic design skills
  • Work with senior Progress Now leaders and others to present the above materials to volunteers on a regular basis with the goal of helping folks be better storytellers

 Required experience, skills, and competencies: 

  • 2-5 years of political social media experience, on political or advocacy campaigns, in the US or state capitols, or with an agency specializing in political works
  • Broad understanding of social media platforms and how content needs differ accordingly
  • Skilled copywriter
  • Has necessary graphic design tools for easy-to-use and replicable social media
  • Proficient in using Canva, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and Facebook
  • Understands Slack, Zoom, Texting and other communications tools
  • An understanding of how personal stories and emotional connection affect public opinion
  • Experience working with coalition partners
  • Understands social media analytics and has a demonstrated ability to use those analytics to inform strategy

The position is remote, with minimal travel expected but contingent upon public health

evaluations.

The starting salary for this position is $60,000. ProgressNow staff members get two weeks of

vacation every year, plus the week between Christmas and the New Year, an additional 8 paid

holidays throughout the year, and paid sick days. We also cover health, vision, and dental

insurance benefits. We provide a 401K plan and an annual professional development stipend.
