AGENCY BACKGROUND

·      Our Legal Services, Social Services, and Weatherization programs meet community members’ basic needs including housing, income, and health.

·      Our Community Organizing program empowers groups of residents to collectively secure longer term and larger scale improvements to their own basic needs.

·      Our Education & Career Services program imparts individual community members with the additional practical tools necessary to build secure and prosperous futures.


SUMMARY

NMIC’s Security Officer is responsible for staff and visitor safety and for ensuring a quality customer service experience for everyone entering NMIC facilities. Core responsibilities include health screening, wayfinding assistance, answering basic visitor questions, monitoring facilities for safety issues, addressing these issues as appropriate, and serving as a Deputy Fire Life Safety Director, DFLSD (NMIC will pay certification costs for eligible DFLSD candidates or a bonus for already certified candidates).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

·      Check that all visitors have completed Covid health screenings and assist them with completing screening as necessary.

·      Direct visitors to appropriate locations throughout the facility and notify staff of visitor arrivals for appointments.

·      Answer basic visitor questions using provided FAQs and flyers (and collect visitor contact information where appropriate for a program staff member to reach back out to).

·      Monitor security camera feeds and patrol the building to protect against fire/theft/vandalism, and to deter criminal activity or other problems related to visitor/staff safety.

·      Maintain staff and visitor compliance with all relevant safety rules (e.g., mask wearing, caps on elevator occupancy).

·      Respond to requests for assistance with incidents within the building (e.g., a disruptive client) in an effective and respectful manner.

·      Write incident reports describing any problems, accidents, theft, or other incidents that occurred during on-duty shifts.

·      Follow all agency security procedures.

·      Oversee building opening and/or closing as appropriate based on shift schedule (lock/unlock doors, check windows, activate/deactivate alarms, ensure all occupants have left before closing, etc.)

·      Prevent and address fire and non-fire emergency situations as a Deputy Fire Life Safety Director for the building.

·      Provide coverage for colleagues’ security schedules, which may require travel to NMIC’s Bronx office located at 8 Clinton Place.

·      Provide support with light maintenance tasks

  • Schedule is Monday - Friday from 1:30pm - 9:30pm


Other related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS      

·      2(+) years as a security officer (preferably in a building setting).

·      NYS Security Officer certification/license is required, and the following certifications are a plus

o  Fire Life Safety Director (or eligibility for certification, which requires 18 months to 3 years of eligible experience)

o  First Aid, CPR, AED

·      Must be at least 18 years old with the ability to work in the United States.

·      Bilingual skills in Spanish/English required, as well as proficiency with written English.

·      Capacity to navigate multiple technological systems to screen and authorize visitor entry.

·      Strong customer service skills and ability to maintain poise and self-control under stress.

·      Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.


Additional Covid-19 Information:

Per New York City guidelines for contractors, the Covid-19 vaccine is mandatory for NMIC staff whose positions require them to work in person. Medical and religious accommodations may be requested and if granted will require weekly Covid-19 testing. Vaccination status will only be requested at the time of hiring by Human Resources. NMIC staff are required to follow all stated safety protocols including mask and social distancing guidelines.

 

SALARY/BENEFITS:

NMIC offers a competitive salary based on experience and education as well as a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, life, and disability insurance; paid time off including 20 vacation days, 15 sick days, 5 personal days, and 12 agency holidays; a 401k with agency contribution; and other benefits.
