Individual Giving Manager

 The Individual Giving Manager is a full-time employee of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS) supporting the Development team and reporting to the Director of Development. The position supports the Individual Giving program, with primary responsibility for implementing a new monthly giving program and for prospect research. This role will assist in further strengthening an already robust individual giving program at a pivotal moment of growth for the institution. The coming season will see CMS restore its activities and budget to pre-pandemic levels and position the organization for further expansion. Philanthropic support will be essential to its future success. 

Over the past two years, CMS has nearly doubled its individual donor base and expanded the roster of institutional funders. In the coming season, retaining those new donors will be a strong priority. Working closely with the Development Officer for Individual Giving and Major Gifts, the position will participate in implementing strategies to renew, increase, and secure new annual fund gifts at all levels from individuals. 

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY 

Annual Fund Campaign 

➢ Working with Development Director and the Development Officer for Individual Giving and Major Gifts, implement a new monthly giving program; primary point person for executing the program and for stewardship of monthly giving donors 

➢ Analyze database to surface monthly giving prospects for initial campaign (fall 2022) and then annually in subsequent cycles 

➢ Principal responsibility for stewardship of members giving less than $2,500 annually (Friends circle) 

➢ Prepare acknowledgements for individual donors giving less than $2,500 

➢ Support the Individual Giving program in tracking donor and prospect moves management in Tessitura and running regular reports on progress 

➢ Pull lists from Tessitura, as needed, for appeals and invitations and prepare lists for mail merge from Excel 

➢ Execute mailings for the Individual Giving program and Events, including in-house appeals, invitations, and Member benefit fulfillment 

➢ Manage matching gifts, track pledges and receipts, and maintain the online portals 


Prospect Research 

➢ Primary responsibility for researching individual donors and prospects, preparing complete profiles, and ensuring proper recording of research in Tessitura 

➢ Point person on the Development team for compiling thumbnail bios of special event attendees 

➢ Keep track of key major donors and update leadership on significant new giving

➢ Check New York Times obituaries for news about the death of any current or former CMS donors or ticket buyers; mark person deceased in Tessitura 

➢ Work with the Development Officer, Operations, to ensure the team has access to research tools and subscriptions, such as Lexis Nexis, i-Wave, Chronicle of Philanthropy, and other publications 

➢ Provide department colleagues with training and support on i-Wave functions 


Cultivation Events 

➢ Manage Open Rehearsals for donors, including sending invitations, response tracking, ordering lunch for musicians and staff, and staffing the event 

➢ Staff concert intermission receptions on rotation with Development team (includes evenings and weekends) 

➢ Help to staff special events including Brandenburg Holiday Celebration, Spring Gala, Opening Night, and other events as directed 


Departmental Administration 

➢ Principal point person to plan for and set up any Development related on-site and Zoom meetings, such as the Development or Nominating Committee and Global Council 

➢ Assist as needed with other large meetings, such as Board or Executive Committee 

➢ Support the Development Officer for Operations with gift entry in Tessitura as needed 

➢ Pull lists from Tessitura of all donors to be acknowledged twice a week, or as needed 

➢ Maintain paper and electronic files for individual donors and Board, ensuring that copies of all appeals, acknowledgements, and other correspondence are copied and clearly labeled 


Qualifications 

➢ Minimum of three years’ experience working in the development office of a similar or larger organization than CMS 

➢ Excellent writing, communication, research, and organizational skills 

➢ Strong computer skills; knowledge of Tessitura a plus
