Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King & Kittitas Counties Advocacy program is committed to building a world where everyone has an affordable place to call home. While our new Construction department builds new homes and our Repair program works to keep people in their homes, the Advocacy department works to build a policy eco-system at the state, county and city level that works to accomplish that vision. Habitat is seeking an Advocacy Organizer to help further develop our relationships with homeowners, advocates, volunteers, and elected officials at the state, county, and city level to advance policies that will improve and increase affordable housing and homeownership policy across the King and Kittitas County areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Engage with and grow our network of homeowners, advocates, and volunteers who can work to help advance Habitat’s advocacy priorities.

· Build and maintain relationships with a wide range of like-minded organizations and individuals both inside and outside existing structures.

· With the Advocacy and Policy Director, develop and deliver training opportunities for potential advocates while ensuring that all advocacy training is rooted in equity and racial justice analysis.

· Serve as a secondary point of contact with elected officials and bodies at the federal, state, and local levels.

· Represent Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King & Kittitas Counties at a variety of functions.

· Other duties and responsibilities as assigned


Minimum Education and Experience

· 1 or 2 electoral campaign cycles or 1-2 years of other advocacy experience

· Ability to efficiently and effectively organize work and time, multiple and conflicting priorities and work independently. Ability to work in an office with frequent interruptions. Must be a self-starter and work independently

· Ability to manage multiple stakeholders with differing priorities

· Ability to work within a remote working structure

· Current driver’s license and vehicle and ability to travel by car or plane

· Computer literate in MS Office and web-based project management software.

· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

· Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with Habitat staff and affiliate volunteers, homeowners, community organizations and elected officials and their staff

· Flexibility, sense of humor, and ability to work under pressure.

· Work occasional evenings and weekends.

Language Skills: Ability to effectively present information to volunteers and advocates. Ability to communicate and understand the sensitivities of vulnerable populations and senior citizens. Ability to respond to common inquires from volunteers, city / county agencies, or the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, the public and/or board of directors.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: Strong computer skills, including knowledge of MS Office including spreadsheets, word processing, presentations and email.

Proficiency with computer usage, especially SmartSheet, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Able to lift at least 20lbs
  • Sit/work at a computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to navigate construction sites to meet with volunteers


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
