    Development Associate

    Founded 40 years ago, the “I Have A Dream” Foundation (IHDF) is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower children from under-resourced communities to succeed in school, college, and career by providing academic, social, and emotional support from elementary school through college, along with a guaranteed post-secondary scholarship. Our dream is a world where every child has equal access to the educational and career opportunities that will ignite their innate potential. 

    Position Summary 

    IHDF is seeking a development associate to assist the director of development as they maintain the donor database and expand the donor network supporting IHDF’s programming. The development associate will also foster engagement with donors through recognition correspondence, marketing materials, decks and direct outreach. The second team member of a growing development team, the development associate will also provide support where needed across our fundraising efforts to meet annual revenue and long-term development goals both locally and nationally. 

    Position location 

    Position is based at the national headquarters in New York City, with hybrid working options. Some evenings and weekends required.

    Compensation & Benefits (FLSA Status: Exempt) 

    IHDF offers a competitive salary based on the organization’s compensation philosophy, which is grounded in market data. The salary range for this position is $63,000-67,000 depending on qualifications. We also offer comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision and life insurance) and top of the market paid time off (vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays). 

    Primary Responsibilities 

    Database Management 

    • Populate our CRM, Salesforce, with new donor data and legacy development information. 
    • Maintain our donor database within Salesforce keeping up to date with weekly transactions and monthly reports
    • Working closely with the director of development, export and transform data for use outside of the development team with different internal departments or board members
    • Research and explore improvements and third party apps to further the power of our database.

    Communication

    • Draft and edit direct donor correspondence and broader donor communications via social media
    • Participate in donor outreach by helping to create exciting proposal, program and event decks
    • Create effective visual libraries using the best photos and videos accurately portray the activities of Dreamers, Dreamer Families and “I Have A Dream” Foundation staff
    • Draft and send biweekly thank you letters to donors 

    Fundraising Events

    • Participate in the development and execution of the “I Have A Dream” Foundation’s annual gala Spirit of the Dream
    • Help build and deliver on sponsorship benefits and communication plan for our gala
    • Help facilitate smaller parties and dinners as needed to build the board of directors’ networks 

    Other Duties: (as needed)

    • Assist director of development with meeting scheduling and document preparation
    • Assemble donor thank you packages and other physical mail
    • Engage in general research on private institutions and individual donors helping to identify potential funding opportunities

    This job involves using a computer or laptop for extended periods of time to complete detailed tasks. The associate should also be prepared to sit for extended periods of time. The associate should be prepared to work remotely and hopefully in person if schedule and location allow.

    Position Requirements 

    • A desire to support the mission and vision of the National “I Have A Dream” Foundation. 
    • The ability to be a detail-oriented implementer who can translate department plans into actions. 
    • Thorough understanding of project management; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines and goals. 
    • An understanding of technology and information systems, managing a large donor database (Salesforce preferred), graphic design (InDesign preferred), social media, and website management experience (Wordpress or Squarespace preferred). 
    • Preferably 2+ years of experience working with large data sets, information systems, communications, or within a development team. A bachelor’s degree or 4 years of relevant experience is required, preferably in nonprofit management, business management, marketing, or a related field. CFRE is a plus.

    Physical and Cognitive Requirements necessary to perform this job 

    • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, analytical, and cognitive skills. 
    • Conduct oral presentations, read, and communicate effectively 
    • Some evenings, weekends and conference travel.
